"SNIP........

A new CBS News poll found that most Republican voters expect the party to follow Donald Trump’s policies and 2020 views, if not the former president himself.

The results indicate 35% of Republicans think party loyalty to Trump is “very important,” and another 30% called it “somewhat important.”

Almost all of my immediate adult family members, a brother, two sons and daughters-in-law, are dedicated fans of tfg. To me It is totally incomprehensible. Fortunately, we don't discuss politics at family get-togethers.

"Somewhat Important" could very well be #30 on the priority list.
I think it's only the 35% saying "very" that matter.
Now. It's 35% of 24% or 8.4% of voters.
Not exactly earth shaking.

it will be Trumptown for the near future. McConnell and DeSantis seem to want to distance themselves but part of the 8% will go back to not voting or voting Democratic like they did in the past. They are the small donors who made Gaetz snd Bobert immune from pressure from big money donors during the House Speaker clown show last week. Their personal relationship to Trump, which they feel they have, is what motivates them, not Republican policies of lower taxes and fewer regulations. Remember 2% is what separates presidential candidates on election day.

I doubt that greatly. It's the other fraction or everybody else who isn't a committed democrat that matters.
This 8% is lost permanently.

grovelled to Trump. They are not wealthy people who have a personal connection to Trump. They lost union jobs. They stopped dreaming. They feel financial anxiety. They started thinking passionately instead of with reason. Trump makes them feel they are very close. Populism.

Those are not part of the 8%.
Think through it. Do you really believe that REPUBLICANS who still think loyalty to TFG is very important actually voted for Obama?
24% Rs, 30% Ds, 46% Indies. It's the other 62% that may have voted Obama, not this 8%.

Especially hats. That is why the GOP doesn't want to alienate them. Some of them were Democrats. Trump promised them to grow jobs in the US. They got into the racist thing. Republicans hope there is no going back.

Trump Ally to Lead Powerful House Tax Committee

Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) “will lead the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, putting a decidedly populist and pro-Donald Trump lawmaker in charge of the chamber’s tax, trade and health agenda,” Bloomberg reports.

“Smith, who advocates positioning the GOP as the party of the working class, represents a shift in Republican economic strategy away from the pro-free-trade, pro-business alignment it’s had for decades.”

"SNIP.......

More than two-thirds of registered Republican voters said in a new CBS News-You Gov poll that they want the party to show at least some signs of loyalty to former President Trump.

The poll, published on Monday, found that 65 percent of registered Republican respondents said that it’s important, to varying degrees, for the party to show loyalty to Trump. On the other hand, 35 percent of those surveyed said that the party doesn’t need to show loyalty to the former president.

Specifically, 35 percent of respondents said party loyalty to Trump was “very important,” while 30 percent said it “somewhat important.”

A Flourish chart

Additionally, 81 percent of registered Republican respondents said that they want potential GOP candidates to have similar “policies and proposals” to Trump, while 19 percent want them to have different ones.
