General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLike everyone who reads this, I have no information about what sort of "classified documents"
were found at President Biden's prior offices.
I have no idea who took them there or left them there.
But, I do know SOMETHING about this situation: I know Joe Biden. I know he is honest and decent and that he highly respects our laws and loves our nation.
I BELIEVE that this is not a situation of intentional theft or concealment or retention of the documents in question.
In short, this is not a "Trump-like" situation and Joe is certainly not a "Trump-like" man.
I've got his back.

(31,055 posts)I am sure we will get a reasonable explanation for this and Im really glad Biden isnt allowing it to throw him off balance. I dont intend to worry until the President looks worried.

(17,960 posts)He didn't lie about it. His people didn't lie about it. They didn't ignore court orders. The FBI didn't get a court order to raid the place. It's typical reichwing bullshit the MSM falls for every time.

(16,937 posts)the 'majority of Americans' know it - but boy, does MAGAts, FAUX Spews, and Wing-Nuts have a bunch of fuel to keep them alive for another round of classic 'They-all-do-it' - and 'the MEDIA' will just play it for all it is worth in their 'viewer-watching' points game.
And YES, Joe, we've got your back!

"SNIP.......
Legal experts say that it is not uncommon for some people who have security clearances to mishandle classified documents. But these situations are typically handled administratively, not criminally, because the criteria for prosecuting people who mishandle classified documents include proving that the person deliberately flouted rules for how to secure the materials.

(3,943 posts)There's a big difference between some papers getting scattered in and accidently removed and intentionally keeping things and refusing to turn them over when asked (like Trump did). One is just negligence. The other is criminal.

(32,093 posts)And, they weren't even sure the extent to which they were classified--if at all. That doesn't scream "intentional theft" to me, either. I wouldn't be surprised if the first batch were along the same lines. No nuclear or military secrets of the highest order. Nothing that will expose clandestine sources overseas. No documents of the highest levels of classification. Regardless, Biden could have just told his lawyers to destroy those documents, rather than turning them in. I don't hear him saying that he "classified them in my mind," either. Yep. Not even close to being Trump-like.

(32,093 posts)Meanwhile, Biden self-reported immediately, both times. In fact, they searched other offices to make sure there were no others.
I've observed Joe Biden for ~50years.
Integrity is a big deal with me.
Joe Biden has passed that integrity test unfailingly and repeatedly.
Donald Trump had failed the integrity test every time out - repeatedly.
Trump's false or misleading claims total 30573 over 4 years

(11,744 posts)I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in a way I would NEVER give Trump. This is based on their respective records.
I cannot say, "I've got his back" though. Not 100%. I have a reasonable confidence that the items are not going to be world shattering nuclear secrets, trust that they were in a secure location and not in the middle of a golf resort, and accept that they were not taken and secreted intentionally. They were found and the authorities were promptly notified. The matter seems to have been resolved.
The government has to do its due diligence so I will wait and see. I do not expect to be shocked, much like I wasn't shocked with the HUGE bombshell allegations of sexual harassment against President (then candidate) Biden turned out to be nothing more than an attempt to smear him.

(7,021 posts)Garland get off your ass and lock these criminals up. You can "build your case" while all the motions and delays are filed. That should be plenty of time to gather evidence.

(118,778 posts)documents are found. Garland must decide whether or not to name a separate special council. Apparently it is common for some officials to retire with a few classified documents in the wrong place. The difference with Trump's case is he lied and hid classified documents that were asked for by the archives so the FBI had to raid Mar A Lago.

(7,021 posts)it take two years ?? I don't care and where they were found. I believe any of this. Call me a conspiracy theorist but it's all to convenient.
Seems all to convenient. They were put there by fbi or secret service who are trump supporters.

(51,007 posts)librarian has a better grip on the documents in the local library than the National Archives has on the secrets that could be the most damaging to our country.
But I don't put all of it on them. The speed with which Garland seems to have looked into this, versus his year-long hot-potato-passing on the much more dangerous breach doesn't make me more confident about him than I was previously.

(14,588 posts)Because, hey, this is new fodder for McCarthy. No one cares at all about Hillary's emails, OR Hunter's laptop, after all. The Republican House Members must earn their inflated salaries for continuing to tear down this Republic. That's the bottom line. The Wall Street greed-lizards, billionaire parasites and and the boards and c-suite offers of publicly held corporations would do a much better job of governing the country, don't you know?

(24,319 posts)1. The trouble with living like Trump is even if you told the truth, no one would believe you.
2. A man wiser than me gave me some business advice which is simple yet all-encompassing: Say what you do and do what you say. Trump is a failure at business because he does neither of these things. Never has.

(51,698 posts)Trump intentionally concealed the classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. And unlike Trump, the National Archives were not even asking for Biden's documents-they didn't even know anything was missing. Unlike Trump, Biden immediately turned over the documents and then proceeded to search other possible locations to make sure he didn't have any more. That is how they found the second batch. Trump is not searching other locations and didn't want to turn over the documents to the National Archives, claiming "they're mine."

(24,766 posts)something. Anything. Bullshit.
We just need to have faith in the American voters to see this for what it is.

(290 posts)The maga base seems to be shrinking as a percentage of voters overall, and the House magats continuing to push new anti-abortion legislation plus their expected attacks on Social Security/Medicare are committing political suicide.

(7,858 posts)but it seems to me no one other than the MSM and the MAGA crazies are going nuts over the Biden document thingy.. even politics junkies like us aren't exactly in OMG mode...could it be the George Santos/Kevin McCarthy 24/7 GOP shit show is more entertaining than a second document discovery?...I'm just not feeling the usual Chicken Little "sky is falling" freakout...
