WTTW ChicagoIt was unclear how many Chicago teachers received the email from Megan Crane, whose LinkedIn page identifies her as the deputy campaign manager for Lightfoot. The message was sent to teachers official work email accounts, which end in cps.edu.
The email says participants in the externship program would be expected to contribute 12 hours per week to the Lightfoot campaign and students could earn class credit.
Were simply looking for enthusiastic, curious and hard-working young people eager to help Mayor Lightfoot win this spring, according to an email obtained by WTTW News.
Chicago politics at its finest.

(7,027 posts)She's just not a good politician. Many who voted for her question her managerial skills.
Getting kids involved in civic organizing isn't a bad thing. But to tie working on the Mayors campaign to class credit is just stupid. She'd have generated good will if she had an announcement with the other announced candidates promoting non-partisan civics activity for credit.
I doubt there are many Chicago political veterans who think this is a good idea. It will go nowhere, or become an activity rolled into a general civics program.
But as you know, civics in public education ain't what it used to be, and probably never was what it could be.
