This is why I believe Garland's move was the right one. They wanted a wide open path for hearings and "investigations." They also wanted to scream double standard.

And just like that, everything we request will be under investigation because of Merrick Garlands appointed special counsel and unavailable to Republican investigators.
Amazing.

(5,857 posts)on Iran Contra, but honestly they are giving way to much deference to the executive branch. The Trump administration made us look like dolts. Bring back (or use) inherent contempt and send capital police to lock some witnesses in the basement if they have hearings the next day. Also pass a law providing immediate appeals to SCOTUS with a shortened timeline when Congressional subpoenas are challenged. Finally allow grand jury testimony to be released to the chair / ranking member of an investigating committee.
I'm sure a few of these need brushing up, but our current system is terrible.

No surprise of course but Rs coming out of the box criticizing Hur as an agent of the Deep State & a secret Dem, & so his appointment is further evidence of the political weaponization of the FBI and the DOJ. Literally nothing will appease them b/c it's not about the merits.
