This Is How Red States Silence Blue Cities. And Democracy. (guest opinion NYT)

NASHVILLE — January in Nashville ushers in two forces for chaos: erratic weather and irrational legislators. Both are hugely disruptive. Neither is surprising anymore.

In the age of climate change, the old joke about New England — if you don’t like the weather, just wait a few minutes — is true all over the country. But even erratic weather, sometimes careening between thunderstorms and snow in a single day, is easier to cope with than the G.O.P. Unlike human beings, weather isn’t supposed to be rational.

Neither, it seems, are Republicans, at least not anymore, and a blue city that serves as the capital of a red state had better brace itself when the legislature arrives in town. Nothing good ever comes when the Tennessee General Assembly reconvenes, but any Nashvillian paying attention understood that this time the usual assaults would be unusually bad.

When these shit-birds say they are going to fix the government what they really mean is that they are going to "fix" wink, wink, the government. And it is not just in their home states that they pull this crap.

The GOP is nation-wide fuck-along-get-along mafia that think that their bullshit "Eleventh Commandment" and their uncanny ability to swim in there own feces are the magical super powers that will always make them impervious to useless, inconvenient, nonsensical notions like truth, fairness, and integrity.

And they are never going to change because psychopaths never see any reason to change.

I can't wait until 2024, because after these selfish idiots show us how to fuck up the House of Representatives, and "fix" that "Gubment" we will get a chance to send them home with their undies packed up their butts.

In the meantime, I can't wait to see the brain-trust they screw in to place as soon as McCarthy hits the wall. Watching the Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, John Boehner, Kevin McCarthy talent devolution curve indicates to me that the next GOP speaker is going to be the Honorable "What's-his-face-AKA-Santos."

I imagine, he will be wearing a costume to please his colleagues, constituents, and donors as he is sworn in. He will be wearing a glittery tube top with a tiny little pocket, so he can carry his tiny little pistol, and a robo-signed MAGA cap.

Fetching, absolutely insane, but still fetching.

And the GOP will clap, and clap, ....and clap, ....and clap, because that's just what they do.

It's just another one of their super powers.
