What does McCarthy lose if he relents on the debt ceiling?

The media I’m seeing isn’t right wing so it’s mostly common sense statements and analysis. “Oh they won’t do this”. Discussion of deep red districts and somewhere between 5 and 20 hardcore debt Republicans.

Let’s look at it from McCarthy’s point of view. If he relents on this so soon after finally become Speaker what does that do to him? What does he lose? Could there be a vote on his Speakership?

why should he change? The traitor caucus can keep a debt ceiling bill from making it to the floor to vote on.

A discharge petition needs 218 signatures to get a bill to the floor, that may be the only hope.

He may want to to finally have a vote when they capitulate on the debt limit. That vote to remove the Speaker will probably fail and the idiot that brings the vote will look pretty stupid.

immediately call to vacate, remove McCarthy as Speaker. He is so desperate to be speaker, he has given up any power the Speaker ever had.

...if he brings a clean debt ceiling bill to the floor, perhaps that would give him enough guts to do it.

I wouldn't count on that though, so I hope we get the discharge petition process up and running as quickly as possible.

unless a few Democrats vote "present" or for Kevin on the forced vote by MAGA.

The debt ceiling is raised because it only takes a very few sane repukes to vote with Dems to raise it.

But the threat is that any given member of the House can now (according to the rule he adopted) can call for a vote of confidence in the Speaker. If the Dems all vote for a Democrat, then Kev needs the same number of votes from Repukes including his MAGAts. And that they won't give him if there is a clean bill on the debt ceiling.

QED Kevin won't bring a simple clean bill to the floor for a vote.
