Small missed opportunity today w/Jehovah's Witnesses

I'm on this site this morning, which I need to get off of now and return to Real Life, but the doorbell rings, and I throw on a baseball cap and answer it. Two nicely-dressed women, who handed me a little pamphlet and ask if I ever think the end of misery and suffering will come. I'm too polite, even after all the **** I've seen and been through. Maybe because they were polite, but I just said "I hope so". A little later I thought I should've said "I think the results of the election last night will reduce misery and suffering!", which probably would've shocked the hell out of 'em.

It was cool that you were polite to them. I've gone out door-to-door with them before and it is a little frightening. When you engage the Witnesses you know that this is who they are and after they leave they won't be trying to lobby the government to take away your rights. Almost all other religions ARE engaged in the political system to take away your rights (or the rights of your friends).

They control their congregation that way--I think it is a way to ensure that they will never cross the line telling them HOW to vote and possibly losing their tax exempt status...so they just tell them NOT to vote.
