https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/29/us/tyre-nichols-video-assault-cops.htmlThe five thugs, and that's what they are; who beat Tyre Nichols to death gave conflicting commands, commands that were impossible for Mr. Nichols to meet and no time to adhere to them if he could.
This was a violent mugging of the highest order and all five of these violent animals should be imprisoned for a very long time!

"Turn to page 102." Wait.

(33,643 posts)It was more of a 'somebody might object' wording.
I'm not exactly 'Officer PC' on DU, or elsewhere
The Magistrate
(95,247 posts)My intent was simply to lay down a marker against the sort of complaints you suspected might occur.
People are people, a fair portion of people are shit-heels, and some professions attract shit-heels in disproportion.

(1,497 posts)The body cams would show what was really going on. Horrible. Did they not think this would come out?
Did they think they could "wash" the body cams somehow? Their despicable actions almost defy belief.

(1,670 posts)Yes this is bad, but have similar events happened before with white policemen killing black (and possibly even white) people? Didn't police boards almost universally find those killings "justified." The fact that the commands couldn't be followed is irrelevant, the suspect must comply or the officers will feel that their lives are in danger. Once they fear for their lives the suspect is dead, and the police will fear for their lives the instant they are not obeyed.
What you are witnessing now is the full swing of institutional racism. Police execution by apprehension of black people appears to be SOP in many jurisdictions, and justification will always be found*.
*Provided the Police officers are white.

(1,497 posts)And previous killings by cop were almost always essentially dismissed because "justified".
Fairly often there was dubious audio, as in shouting get down when the subject (victim) was already down if not yet out. Out of the picture, that is.
It's rampant and only widespread deep reform from federal to local level has any hope of changing things.

(1,693 posts)They gave him 71 commands and he didn't listen!
71 times they ordered him to comply and he didn't!
They gave him 71 chances!
He wouldn't stop! They feared for their lives!
That will be their defense, and you know what? I would not be surprised at all if they got away with it.
They're Black. They will not get away with it.

(1,693 posts)They're cops. They might get away with it. I'm not saying I want them to, or that it's even likely, but nothing is open-and-shut with this stuff, ever.

(2,567 posts)Immediate firings, immediate dissolution of their unit, and cops outside of Memphis are protesting their behavior. The contrast is striking. They are being treated the way white cops in similar situations should be treated.

(4,552 posts)Philly is short 1300 police. No one even wants to do the job. Part of that equation is that police do not consider themselves equal to us. They believe they are superior. Why do we have more people in jail than any country on earth. Police are not interested in improving the community. When you talk to a police officer they are working on one thing. How can I get this person in jail.
Republicans are attempting to destroy education but love to pay for prisons. This is nuts folks and it is not working.

(10,185 posts)This is how you police a country you are attempting to conquer and occupy. It's how we policed the streets in Iraq. It is the militarization of our police.
It is specifically done to subdue the population. It is designed to make the majority of the people afraid and obedient so that the new rulers can go ahead with their plans.
Be afraid of us and do what you're told. That is how the US does policing.
The question is what do you think they want us to do?

(4,552 posts)What is their end game?
Presently they are working hard to destroy education and it makes you wonder what the plan is.

(3,514 posts)The system is weeding out the people who refuse to work in a corrupt, abusive system. In the end you are left with only those who are, at best, willing to turn a blind eye to such a system, and at worst those who relish such a system.
There are people who want the job. However many of them are the problem. Those who aren't are the ones driven away.

(15,577 posts)And no matter how many people say, Youre being paranoid when you talk about police brutality I know what Im talking about. I survived those streets and those precinct basements and I know. And Ill tell you this I know what it was like when I was really helpless, how many beatings I got. And I know what happens now because Im not really helpless. But I know, too, that if he (police) dont know that this is Jimmy Baldwin and not just some other nigger hes gonna blow my head off just like he blows off everybody elses head. It could happen to my mother in the morning, to my sister, to my brother For me this has always been a violent country it has never been a democracy.

(15,943 posts)Abuse of power by the enforcers has always been this way. Thats why we have the enforcers to begin with to subdue the black populations.
