(14,837 posts)Previous searches were likely done by Biden's lawyers. An aagressive sc would want the fbi to take a broader look.
And if they find any evidence of "other" crimes, they will pursue those, no matter how trivial. Garland really didn't think this through. He must not remember ken starr.
Is he in his right mind?
Look, the fbi could search ANYONE's home and find evidence of a crime. I don't care who you are, you have evidence of something illegal, even if you are unaware of it, in your possession. It might just be a piece of art you bought decades ago but which now falls under some antiquities act.
This investigation is about to spread.

(7,839 posts)As opposed to search by WARRANT, STALL by deploying your appointed judicial servants.
I see this as a good thing, a lenses for the public to easily contrast and compare Biden v. Trump handling of documents
night and day, good and evil.

(999 posts)The was a requested search and no warrant was involved. Also the scope of the search will be limited to documents, not to furniture or other objects in the house. Lastly the word is Counsel not Council.

(14,837 posts)Did the SC request it? The link doesn't say it was even requested so no source to fall back upon.

(42,761 posts)The probable cause to search Mar-a-Lago was based on testimony from sources within Mar-A-Lago. At this point, unless there is actual evidence to support a search of the other properties, there is no probable cause.
To give a pedestrian example: if you are caught out and about in possession of a controlled substance, that fact, in and of itself, may give rise to a suspicion that you have more drugs in your home, but it won't create probable cause for a search of your home.

2 people who searched Trump properties for classified documents testified before federal grand jury in Mar-a-Lago probe
https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/30/politics/mar-a-lago-grand-jury-probe-trump-documents/index.html
Former federal prosecutor Cynthia Alksne, who works as an MSNBC legal analyst, suggested that could soon change. She said she believes the DOJ could indict the former president "soon," saying she hopes this would happen before the spring.
"Well, I would guess that one is going to come pretty soon. I mean, let's face itthat's an easy prosecution," she said. "You stole the documents. We're asking for them. We ask you 'pretty please.' You said 'no.' You lied about it. You move them, and then we found them."
Alksne said the case could likely be prosecuted "at any time," but the DOJ still has work to do to craft its strongest argument, including fully identifying obstruction allegedly committed by Trump's team.
"They also have to figure out, now that they have the documents, were they shared with anybody and what exactly happened with them," Alksne added. "And that may take some time."

(86,005 posts)...so maybe this poster can tell us why they believe those grand juries won't make a decision to indict.
That process, which revealed a flurry of subpoenas to top Trump officials at the end of last year, isn't going to be indefinite. And unless they have some info or evidence that the grand juries (which are the primary tool prosecutors use to determine whether to move to court) have either finished their inquiries or made decisions on whether to indict, this poster has nothing to back this nonsense about "Spring of '45.'

(92,397 posts)problem is the F**KING SO-CALLED "MEDIA", implying with innuendos and hyperbole that this has nefarious implications.
Even Bloomberg is pushing the "concerning situation"
I am disgusted with what the country has become.
We are where we are today because too many so-called people didn't vote, or voted third party in 2016, because the LIE was pushed that there is no difference between the two parties.
A woman's right to choose, the environment, civil rights, workers rights, health care, social security, medicare, etc. were and are at stake, and if we don't come out in mass and vote, we will lose our democracy

(86,005 posts)...Trump's was searched under a warrant that needed to show to a judge that a crime had likely been committed before being issued.
Trump's facing legal jeopardy, Biden's in the end game of the piffle of controversy over his docs recovered. And remember, those outstanding locations of Trump's are still potentially subject to other warrants being obtained.

(108,192 posts)The FBI searched President Joe Biden's Delaware beach home Wednesday, as part of an ongoing inquiry into the handling of classified documents, though no additional records bearing government classification were recovered.
Biden attorney Bob Bauer confirmed the action, saying the Rehoboth Beach search was planned with "the president's full support and cooperation" and lasted three and half hours, concluding at noon.

(32,731 posts)All of this for files that are were not even missed. I'm sorry, I know some people will still make excuses for Garland and the FBI, but this is disgusting. The contrast of how Democrats are treated versus republicans is disgusting. The FBI is working overtime to kiss republican ass but it's not going to get them very far. They are literally participating in their own demise and potentially the demise of our democracy because pretty soon, we're going to have Democrats who want the FBI shut down just as much as the refugs do. And when the refugs get their way and all of the "inconvenient" government agencies are dismantled, then what? What's the plan then?
