(22,357 posts)the last place I would access abortion care. Their "abortion ritual" is legally dangerous and a lot of other grassroots organizations are doing better, more effective and more applicable work than TST.
Also, "free abortion care" that costs $90?
JanMichael
(24,890 posts)I went to the site and didn't see a huge number of issues.
Are they practicing vivisectionists?
WhiskeyGrinder
(22,357 posts)fight they've been in, and their antics are confusing to patients. They're a PR grift, nothing more.
Lol $90 for shipping and handling? Come on.
Celerity
(43,409 posts)around $90, far lower than patients might experience with a brick-and-mortar clinic.

(24,890 posts)A nice no kill shelter too.
In some people's eyes the shelter is up to some skullduggery.

(1,167 posts)I've posted about them a couple of times here, and each time there have been people who clutch their pearls because the organization is The Satanic Temple.
The Satanic Temple does good work. That they made abortion an actual sacrament is just brilliant, and I give them much credit for it.
Now they're providing abortion care. This seems like a great thing to me.
Just what is it about them that you dislike?
WhiskeyGrinder
(22,357 posts)It has a shit record in court. Pretending people can "join up" and partake in the sacrament without legal risk is a garbage move. Increasingly, independent clinics and abortions funds and others who have been doing the work within the movement for years are speaking out against the TST as well. If people want a religious challenge to anti-abortion laws, Jewish cases have a much better legal chance. The TST is simply a stunt. Others have more to say about its leader, as well, beyond the abortion issue.

(45,107 posts)in a discreet package. Unless the PO is going to open every package 90 dollars for the pills are one heck of a good bargain.

Christians won't stand for this. Satanic abortion rituals?
I don't believe in the christian's god, and conversely I don't believe this satan stuff either. They can all go to hell as far as I'm concerned.
It's just a publicity stunt, trying to get as much ink as the god-squad.

(19,201 posts)They'll track it down, and if they don't they'll make sure there's a DOS attack or something else to screw with them. They'll dox the members etc.
They won't let this go, you can count on it, virtual or not.

(557 posts).... Of atheistic humanists with a performative theater front designed to piss off hypocritical Christians. They take the hysterical 'satan is coming for you' blather and pretend to be that with tongue firmly in cheek.
They are mostly useful to pushback on efforts to put Christianity in preeminence by suing to get whatever benefit the Christianists want for themselves. They may not win a lot, but their suits serves 2 aims. When the Christians is start frothing about it (like prayer in front of city council meetings), reasonable people who might have overlooked the effort are reminded that there are others religions out there and wonder if it's OK for one side, why not for another? Also, in many instances the Christianists back off from the appearance (& reality) of hypocrisy being pointed out, or to close the door to everyone to deny it to TST.
They exist to troll Christofascists in a sensational manner.

(34,060 posts)so i googled and went on their website. i don't think it's anything like you imagine it might be. (it's not to be confused anton levey's satanic stuff)
there is a q&a page:
q. do you worship satan?
No, nor do we believe in the existence of Satan or the supernatural. The Satanic Temple believes that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions. Satanists should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world never the reverse.

there are a lot of q & a and it's pretty interesting.
i remember they started doing after school clubs at schools that were allowing after school christian clubs which i always thought was their way of trying to get the christian clubs out of the schools.
The After School Satan Club does not believe in introducing religion into public schools and will only open a club if other religious groups are operating on campus. ASSC exists to provide a safe and inclusive alternative to the religious clubs that use threats of eternal damnation to convert school children to their belief system. Unlike our counterparts, who publicly measure their success in young children's "professions of faith," the After School Satan Club program focuses on science, critical thinking, creative arts, and good works for the community. While engaged in all of these activities, we want clubgoers to have a good time.

anyway, the fact that they have figured out a way around this anti-abortion bullshit is pretty fucking great imo.

(19,201 posts)are going to find the humor in the satanic temple? No. No, they won't.
I don't have any inside information about them. Actually, I know nothing about them. Never heard of them, but all you have to do is just mention satan, and christians go bat-shit crazy.
I'm just sick to death of the entire god vs. satan bullshit, with each one wanting to obliterate the other.

(34,060 posts)they don't want "in god we trust" on the missouri flag
which is what this newsweek article is about
https://www.newsweek.com/satanic-temple-doesnt-believe-satan-they-may-sue-his-name-anyway-1516694
they don't want christian after school groups in public schools
they think women should have the right to control their own bodies
they used "satan" for shock value (according to newsweek)
pretend it's called the LIBERAL temple
b/c they believe in science, not god, not satan, not superstition
(and who cares if christians go bat shit crazy with the mention of satan? big deal, the ones that are going crazy are crazy already. )
and i'm done with this. it's as if you didn't read a thing i posted for you. so, read about it, learn about it or don't. i don't care. and i'm asking myself why the fuck am i defending this organization that i have no affiliation with--to you.

(50,955 posts)to be afraid of angering Christians.
That's a lot of the point of the Church of Satan. They point out the hypocrisy of the Christian monolith in our country. They work against the desire of Christians to control Christians and non-Christians alike.
They have nothing to do with Satan.
