'You can't just shoot a 12-year-old child for literally no reason,' Amir Worship attorney says

CHICAGO – Twelve-year-old Amir Worship was sitting on his bed, shirtless and with his hands raised, when an Illinois police officer shot him in the knee with an AR-15-style rifle during a pre-dawn SWAT raid.

Five surgeries and four years later, he has PTSD and a permanent disability.

Amir and his mother, Crystal Worship, sued the officer – who claims he fired accidentally – and the suburb of Richton Park, Illinois, in the 2019 incident, alleging the officer intentionally or recklessly shot Amir.

Attorneys on Wednesday announced a $12 million settlement in the case. While several probes did not find misconduct, the family is now calling on county prosecutors to hold the officer accountable.

Admitting to doing it by accident is admitting to negligence. Write the checks. ZonkerHarris Feb 2023 #8

There's only negligence if a gun goes off when it shouldn't, the thing was mishandled. That is never an accident.

You don't get to make mistakes where deadly force is involved.

The $12M doesn't come from the cop, and he's not going to get prosecuted (a prediction, yes, but based on the fact that they've covered his ass with "several probes" not finding misconduct already).

Fire him. You can’t be a cop and not know how to handle a loaded weapon.

Locked, cocked and finger on the trigger. That cop was an irresponsible dipshit.

It didn't stop the DA from charging him with 3rd degree murder (manslaughter).

And that when given safety instruction on the set, he was on the phone talking with his family.

I'm just guessing but if witnesses had said that Baldwin took gun safety seriously, he might not have been charged.

These no knock raids where police play military are absolutely insane and the vast majority of them are totally unnecessary. This was for drug charges that got dropped. These raids are dangerous and stupid and the police simply wants to play dress up so they can terrorize communities.

There's a hundred safer, cheaper, and more effective ways to execute an arrest warrant. The war on drugs is so stupid.
