A thought about 2024

In 1980, Jimmy Carter was running for reelection. During his term, he faced severe issues at home and abroad. The economy was stuck with high inflation, gas prices were high and Iran was holding dozens of American diplomats as political hostages. The military attempt to free them was a colossal failure.

In short, President Carter was a weakened candidate. Then something unthinkable happened. Senator Ted Kennedy challenged the president in the primaries. This further weakened President Carter by dividing and discouraging Democrats.

Coupled with Reagan’s dirty campaign which probably cut a secret deal with Iran, (the hostages were released on the day Reagan was inaugurated), Reagan cruised to victory.

Republicans began their hard-right turn driving them down the path where we are today.

Let’s not divide our party this time around. Anyone who challenges a healthy President Biden should be taught this history.

If the Republicans gain control of our government, our country will transform beyond our wildest fears.

Democrats must stand strong and in unity. Let the Republicans divide themselves

on the other hand, if GQP Presidential candidate appears to be sane and moderate, they may fall in line with some Indies. At this point in time, it appears the insane are the front runners, which many Indies and a few GOP will not stomach.

Then you have the GQP red states that have gerrymandered and suppressed to a shit level. The RWer judge in NY screwed the Democrats. But they got Santos who is a total embarrassment to the GQP party (although many GQP don't have no shame).

Yes, if the Democrats stay united, we have a shot in keeping the Presidency, retaking the House and keeping the Senate.

What we are seeing in the House currently will be spread throughout the government and it will all unravel quite rapidly.

Running third party is what trump claimed he was going to do a few months back if he didn’t get the nomination.

Depending on how colossal of a failure he is, that might not be an option. Who am I kidding, of course it’ll be what he does. As soon as he is done campaigning - regardless if he’s a viable candidate or not - his fundraising gravy train is over. He has to keep going for the sake of his own personal greed.

Kind of like Sarah Pailin kept it going election cycle after election cycle to keep herself relevant so she could sell books and keep making money guest-speaking and whatnot.

The trump brand will be dead when trump is no longer involved in politics.

As I recall Jimmy Carter was very unlikely to win regardless of primary challengers.

The propaganda coupled with economic misery and national discontent even led me to cast the only republican vote in my long life. I soon realized I didn't know how good we had it and what a great president Carter was.

Uninformed people still demean him as a clueless peanut farmer.

is the most incredible person I have ever met, and had the opportunity to talk with at length.
He is modest, and soft spoken. He has a warmth and kindness about him that will overwhelm you. He has more interest in continuing to help people than any other past president........Reagan was an idiot, plain and simple. HWBush/Cheney/Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and dozens more were running things far before the election........including conspiring with an enemy of the U.S......IRAN....to influence the vote.
Something well defined as TREASON..............

A Clueless peanut farmer?????????? Hardly.............HE WAS A FUCKING NAVY SUB COMMANDER IN THE U.S. NAVY FOR CRAPS SAKE..........Does anyone have a clue, to how much intelligence it takes to do that job???????????? I know a now retired Sub Commander, and that person has to have an intimate working knowledge of every last single facet of every submarines systems, the same as an engineer might have of the entire sub. As well as having all the War College education, and advanced knowledge of the weapons on board the sub.....

Jimmy Carter, and his charming wife, are individuals who should be given an entire second life span here on earth, for all the two of them have done for humanity during this lifetime.........Period. I certainly cannot say the same for anyone else out there.....

Those people find it hard to believe when I inform them that the "peanut farmer" was hand chosen by Admiral Rickover to take over the fledgling nuclear submarine program in the '50s.

He resigned his commission when his father Earl became stricken with cancer and he was needed at home to take over the family business. It was either him or Billy, and he had little choice. James Earl Carter then went on to apply himself to great success in public service.

It’s an interesting premise, though!

Actually, the country yearned for change and Reagan’s faux sunny personality was naively embraced by Americans. I don’t think that Senator Kennedy could overcome the Republican juggernaut that year.

And yet, we’ve seen a Democrat challenge the incumbent just recently in New York. It’s wasteful and divisive. How’s it work out for the challenger?

Actually, my thought was prompted by finding a Playbill from a Kennedy for President fund raiser I attended in 1980. It was held at a Broadway theater. I was interning for a famous musician who was as a long-time friend of the Kennedys. We were obligated to attend.

I wouldn’t want to see something similar occur. That’s where I got the idea.
