The Republicans had really beefed up their voter registration after 2008. It was a hard fought ground game with lots of voter registration and then id'ing and turning out the vote. We were neck and neck up north.

Wheeeee. The blue dot in the back of the flaccid dong

And Nate Silver said, if Hillsborough goes blue, Obama takes Fl. He is very good at math

Blue this year and every year. MN-05--Keith Ellison's district--had the highest voter turnout in the nation in 2008. We're hoping we beat that record this year.

We also defeated an amendment banning same sex marriage and a voter ID amendment that would have ended same-day registration.

That's a great claim to fame! Voter turn out is our area is always an issue, and one I've been following for a while here locally. Any specific reason why your county has such a high voter turnout, other than just having civic-minded people living in your area?

Which gives MN high voter turnout. Democrats depend on Minneapolis to turn out the majority of votes for the state. I'm not sure why else, other than the Obama campaign concentrated heavily on the area in both elections.

The city is bright blue. The county less so. I live between Sac City and Rancho Cordova. Still very blue here

Less blue than 2008 but still FREAKING blue... That little roundish county (Houston) just north of the Gulf.

Used to live there a long time ago. Glad to see Harris County turn blue - looks like the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and Austin did, too. Sadly, many of my FB 'friends' from TX are very anti-Obama, so much so that they are really fretting today. Loving the map!

Those counties have demographics similar to what the Dems need to bridge the urban-rural divide in much of the midwest.

What issues/history are responsible for that geographic cluster?
