Senate Democrats push to make Juneteenth a Michigan holiday with new bill

On the first day of Black History Month, Senate Democrats introduced legislation in an attempt to finally make Juneteenth, a holiday widely celebrated by Black Americans for years, official in Michigan.

Juneteenth recognizes the date in which slaves in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom on June 19, 1865— more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

Senate Bill 50, sponsored by Sen. Sylvia Santana, D-Detroit, could soon designate June 19 of each year as a state recognized, public holiday.

“Black history is American history, and we must acknowledge it and we must make sure that it’s recognized across this country,” Santana said.

This is what you said " Almost a certainty that the racists that have the narrow majority in the House"

Again, why do you insist on calling them racists, even after being called out on it ?

"As a result of the 2022 election, Democrats maintained control of the governorship and gained majorities in both state legislative chambers, meaning the state became a Democratic trifecta."

for pointing out my error, where I was just focusing on the OPs title, rather than the substance.

I will self-delete my post.

Again, thanks for pointing out my mistake
