I've seen this mention on DU, but is anyone else saying the reason for no pre written
concession speech from Mitt was because he thought Rove had rigged it, and Rove's
meltdown on Fox news, was because his plan to rig the results had gone wrong.

(4,119 posts)Because they said it...does it mean it's true???? As we know, Mitt has been a stranger to truth all along...why believe him now. THEY LIED! I think they said it in order to appear confident. FOX NEWS viewers had been convinced that he would win by a landslide...so this would further convince them. He gave a great speech...it was obviously pre-written.
I think it's time we put the whole "rigged election" thing to rest. Half the threads pre-election were about that and it just caused more stress to all of us.
Anybody who believes in systematic rigging of elections needs to sign up to be an election officer next election. When you see how it all works...you would see how near impossible it would be to do anything that could damage the election in a big way. Too many precincts...too many people.

(3,426 posts)You will recall the time lapse . Any good speech writer could have whipped that up in an hour easy ,believe that.
And very many small things add up big time.
What was it Palin said to her daughter- trust but verify is that it ? !
Let me reverse that- verify first believe it or not. !
Know this, Romney actually believed he was the president going into election day.
When he said they put it all on the field it is really what he meant by that. Politicians like to use words like heads will roll.
And there were plenty deals struck behind closed doors. There is no delivery and there is no return.
You heard the saying bet the farm- they bet it all.
Indeed heads will roll.

(1,979 posts)It doesn't matter how many people you see with your eyes.
We cannot stop banging this drum. We need voting reform. Accountability. verification. No last minute secret "patches".
Remember: It doesn't matter who votes. What matters is WHO is counting the votes.

(22,000 posts)It is true he had no concession speech. Was he out of touch with reality. Absolutely.

(38,958 posts)It was said that Mitt had not written a concession speech. I am sure he didn't, one was written for him by a staff member. It was a parsing of words that lead to the belief that one was not written.

(18,184 posts)that they wanted to create the impression that he went all out for victory, that he gave it his best shot, pulled out all the stops etc. I think that's what he meant by they "put it all on the field" (including, for example, the campaign events on election day).

(14,881 posts)says that their team honestly believed they were going to win. They really and truly did not see this coming. Not because they thought they owned the voting machines, but because they believed their own bullshit.
They believed their own bullshit about supposed lack of morale, laziness, stupidity etc. They didn't think Pres. Obama would be able to equal, never mind surpass, his 08 GOTV.
They are so arrogant they don't even get the consequences of their actions, such as locking their supporters into an area to stand and freeze when their candidate was late to his last-minute Pittsburgh rally. They don't get how infuriating that would be to those people, how fast word would travel on twitter that their supporters were desperate to go home, how many of their own lukewarm supporters who that would inspire to stay home, etc.
They really and truly are clueless. They ignored every *fact* that states that they represent a shrinking minority group of "entitled" old white men and the few who depend on those old white men.
Even after Pres. Obama clearly won without counting their precious Ohio, Florida and Virginia, they still made the country wait nearly 2 effing hours before conceding with a speech that, if it wasn't pre-written, could have been dashed off in 20 minutes.

(20,166 posts)""We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers..." That's what a Romney pollster said.
Although he may have been lumping "fact-checkers" among the dreaded "liberal media," I think that statement more accurately reveals just how out of touch with (and resistant to) reality rightwingers are.
I've always been puzzled and bothered by that quote from a Bush aide a decade ago that mocked those of us in "the reality-based community," as if being based in reality is a bad thing.

(14,881 posts)Romney never expected to be fact-checked by the President, in real time, in debate #2, in front of the world.
And from what I've read, Debate #1 went exactly as they expected and President Obama fell into their trap. He tried to play nice guy and took some hefty punches.
What they weren't prepared for was how putting his back against a wall would light a fire under his tail and bring him off the ropes and punching direct hits in Debates #2 and 3.
He forget his "above it all" cool and came back itching for the fight.
And that's how he's got to approach the GOP from here on out. Forget about the popularity contest. Go out there not just ready, but hungry for blood.
