(46,192 posts)We're not going to repeal health reform.
Nobody's going to kill Medicare and make old people in this generation or any generation fight it out on the open market to try to get themselves health insurance. We are not going to do that.
We're not going to give a 20% tax cut to millionaires and billionaires and expect programs like food stamps and health care for children to cover the cost of that tax cut.
We're not going to make you clear it with your boss to get birth control through the insurance plan that you're on.
We're not going to redefine "rape".
We're not going to amend the constitution to stop gay people from getting married.
We're not going to double Guantanamo.
We're not eliminating the Department of Energy or the Department of Education or Housing at the Federal level.
We are not going to spend 2 trillion dollars on the military that the military does not want.
We are not going to scale back on student loans because the new plan is that you should borrow from your parents!
We are not veto-ing the Dream Act.
We are not "self-deporting".
We are not letting Detroit go bankrupt.
We are not starting a trade war with China on Inauguration Day in January.
We are not going to have as president, a man who led a mob to run down a scared gay kid and hold him down to cut his hair off with a pair of scissors while that kid cried and screamed for help -and there was no apology, not ever.
We are not going to have a Secretary of State John Bolton.
We are not bringing Dick Cheney back.
We are not going to have a foreign policy shop stocked with architects of the Iraq War. We are not going to do it.
We had the choice to do that if we wanted to do that as a country and we said "no" last night, loudly.

(15,139 posts)frightening that we live in a country where nearly half the voters supported that agenda. There were plenty of Romney/Ryan yard signs in my suburb of Southern Cal. People are either so brainwashed by FAUX and Rush they have no idea what they are voting for or they actually want to set the clock back to a nightmarish pre-civil rights and pro-neocon mishmash of eras.

IMHO, Rachel Maddow is today's successor to Edward R. Murrow. She has the courage and the intellect.
Who would have thought that this beautiful, Lesbian woman, who speaks so eloquently but with passion, who not only owns the facts, but presents them in such a way they are accessible to all, would be THE person the Rmoney/Lyin' campaign would fear the most.
If I wore a hat, I would proudly tip it to Rachel Maddow.

- We are not going to have a Supreme Court that overturns Roe v. Wade. There will be no more Antonin Scalia's and Samuel Alito's added to this court.
- We are not going to repeal health reform.
- Nobody is going to kill Medicare and make old people in this generation or any other generation fight it out on the open market to try to get themselves heath insurance.
- We're not going to give 20% tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires and expect programs like Food Stamps and kids' health insurance to cover the cost of that tax cut.
- We're not going to make you clear it with your boss if you want to get birth control under the insurance plan you're on.

- We are not going to have as a president a man who once led a mob of friends to run down a scared gay kid to hold him down and forcibly cut his hair off with a pair of scissors while that kid cried and screamed for help... and there was no apology, not ever.

Also, I loved her use of the terms "shellacked" and "humiliation" to describe the Republicans' evening

(33,688 posts)Rachel was on the top of her game last night despite the fact that she was on the air until nearly 3 am east coast time. I hope she takes next week off. She more than earned it this week.
Going out and having a few drinks with Kindly Doc Maddow and just shooting the shit about politics for a few hours is one of the few things on my bucket list.

(5,412 posts)I still disagree with her on guns, but that was probably the best Rachel Maddow I've ever seen.
I think she was very, very on track about the Republicans being in such a bubble that not only did they absolutely not see these election results coming, but they didn't believe them even as they happened.
These people need to wake up. Sadly, I do not think they will. Too much of their ideology is spawned from religious conviction, and I mean that literally. I don't think most of these people have the mental capacity to overcome the cognitive dissonance they will have to endure to come out of their shells.

To take some slight exception with the 16 min. clip analysis, I'd like to point out that you can't humiliate people who have no shame. Rachel is talking idealistically, and she is definitely a realist in thought.

(63 posts)Maddow Conclusions about Reality:
Ohio really did go to Obama last night
He really was born in Hawaii
He really is legitimately President of the United States
The Bureau of Labor Statistics did not make up a fake un-employment rate last month
The Congressional Research Service really can find no evidence that cutting taxes on rich people grows the economy
The polls were not skewed to oversample Democrats
Nate Silver wasn't making up fake projections about the election to make Conservatives feel bad. Nate Silver was doing math
And climate change is real
And rape really does cause pregancy sometimes
Evolution is a thing
Benghazi was an attack on us, it was not a scandal by us
Nobody is taking away anyone's guns
Taxes have not gone up
The deficit is dropping
Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass-destruction
The moon landing is real
FEMA is not building concentration camps
UN Election Observers are not taking over Texas
Moderate reforms of the insurance industry and the financial services industry are not the same thing as communism
