I did not think the day would come when we had to consider the possibility of our POTUS
being attacked by a member of Congress while delivering his State of the Union address.

5. I'm guessing that considering the 'brain trust' that occupies the 'R' section......
that there might be someone in that group that will try to out-do Joe Wilson and his disgusting asshole-ness during a PRESIDENT OBAMA SOTU.
https://www.usatoday.com/videos/news/politics/2017/04/11/2009-joe-wilson-shouts-'you-lie'-then-president-obama/100350416/ To be honest, I'm thinking that our DU community is missing a money-making opportunity here by not have a poll/winner-take-all regarding which wing-nut will be the one to further disgrace our United States government. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

6. Thanks, I thought that perhaps I missed something.
the repellent repugs will say and or do something stupid. I'm hardwired genetically wise as a democrat to expect such 'mouthing off'. They remind me of the stupid and ignorant bullies I grew up w/ when I was a young kid (yes, we were all that way one time!). As I got older and older, I came to sadly shake my head when they made such ignorant comments, while us and the rest of the world went on to actually do something and solve some of the issues in this world. Instead of mouthing off, bad mouthing people, etc., at least propose something constructive for once and do something. Perhaps they need to issue report cards on each member of Congress and if they fail, they're automatically thrown out of Congress and a new member of Congress from that district then replaces them.
In this day and age of instant communication, it can be done, but it won't. Congress wants to be broken (some members want it to be broken so the laws, tax codes, etc. still in effect, remain in effect). |

13. Republicans got rid of the metal detectors.

3. Yes, it's unfortunate
That social media can easily create mutually reinforcing anxiety frenzies for things unlikely to happen.
But it's the world we live in now. |

12. The day already came when the president was attacked verbally during the SOTU.
But if you're saying the day has come when a physical attack is a possibility, you need to call out. This isn't the Creative Speculation forum.

16. There were no magnometers before 2021
So the "possibility" of a physical attack existed for decades. And, according to this article, the magnometers installed in 2021 were removed before the 2022 SOTU. https://kesq.com/news/national-politics/cnn-us-politics/2023/02/03/us-capitol-police-ramp-up-security-ahead-of-bidens-state-of-the-union-address/ |

18. Thanks. Still trust that Secret Service will be extra vigilant. For one, Boebert's carrying.
Boebert’s been boasting about carrying guns in congress, and as OP points out she just prayed for Biden’s death in church.

15. Ms. Boebert just recently publicly prayed for President Biden's death and is one of the most
"in your face" pistol packers in Congress.
The metal detectors to screen out packing politicos were removed as soon as the Republicans took over the House. There were several Representatives who repeatedly refused to submit to the metal detector screening when the Democrats were in charge. Why? In my feeble mind, that raises the "possibility" of an assault on our POTUS while the nation is watching. |

19. Yes, read about her prayers at church for Biden to die. Apparently the congregation fully
agreed. If nothing else she’s probably inspiring some unhinged ‘christian’ to harm Biden.

21. I've also been wondering what additional steps are being taken to ensure the security
and safety of President Biden, and of course, everyone else.
I'm sure they won't give briefings on the exact details and it will probably be invisible to the general public, but I hope to learn more later. |
