An open letter to the Tea Party
To my dear Tea Party friends:
I know this election didn't turn out exactly as you had envisioned. And there are people in that nasty old corrupt Republican Party who are angry with you right now. They are saying terrible things. They say you cost them the Senate in 2010 by knocking out very electable conservatives with certifiably insane candidates. And they are saying that you did it again this year by taking races that were certain wins for the Republicans who were fielding very conservative candidates that agree with you about 99% of the time, and replacing them with lunatics who think rape is just another of the sacraments that we should all enjoy as we worship God.
And, well, I guess they do have a point. Between the regular GOP ultra-conservative candidates you knocked out and the other states where Republicans lost because you scared the hell out of the American people, it is true that without your help, the GOP wold be in control of both the House and Senate from 2011-2014 for sure, and be in a very good position to control the Senate 2015-2106. And without your help, Romney would not have lost the female vote nationally 43-55, and would be taking office in January.
So there is no doubt that you have cost the Republicans control of the Senate and the Presidency for 2012. But I am here to tell you not to let your spirits get down. As you know, principles are far more important than results in politics. So take a few days off. Go visit the local pedophile preacher. Maybe go to the local jail and visit a rapist or two to recharge your batteries. And then get back in the game. We need you in 2014. Your country needs you. God wants you to do this.
