Michigan State University gunman turned 'evil and mean' after his mother's sudden death, his father

Michigan State University gunman turned 'evil and mean' after his mother's sudden death, his father says

The gunman who police said killed three students and injured five others on Michigan State University’s campus Monday night turned “evil and mean” and became a recluse after his mother's death two years ago, his father said.

Anthony McRae, 43, had a difficult time handling the loss of his mother, Linda McRae, and his demeanor and outlook on life “changed” after she died of a stroke on Sept. 13, 2020, according to his father, Michael McRae.

“He was a mama’s boy. He loved his mom. They were tight. His mom was like his sister," Michael McRae said.

After her passing, the younger McRae quit his job at a warehouse and stayed in his room all day, his father said.

“He was grieving his mom. He wouldn’t let it go. He got bitter, bitter and bitter,” Michael McRae said. “His mom died, and he just started getting evil and mean. He didn’t care about anything anymore."

So, while he couldn't get mental health treatment to help him deal with his difficulties, he could get his hands on firearms and go on a little killing spree before taking his own life. That's freedom for a small but very vocal segment of our population, and we must all live in the society they dictate.

...waiting lists stretch out three months or more.

Even showing up in the E.R. with some pretty serious shit doesn't guarantee a fast pass to appropriate psychiatric care.

Fortunately the vast majority of mentally ill people aren't prone to shooting others.

Alas, too many are prone to shooting themselves.

There are these places called " Community Mental Health Centers" -- very little cash, and no insurance needed.

Don't know where you live, but when I used their services, there was no "waiting list".

... as a patient, not a medical provider.

Fortunately I tend to be an affable sort when I'm at my worst, otherwise I might be in prison. Or dead. Here in California the prisons are the largest mental health care providers.

When things start to go wrong for me the first thing that flies out the window is my ability to judge my own mental state.

On my own, at my worst, I wouldn't have the wherewithal to get myself to one of those "Community Mental Health Centers." My natural state seems to be crazy homeless guy, mostly harmless. Been there, done that, don't want to do it again.

I learned a long, long time ago that I needed to maintain some sort of social support network to catch me when I fall.

Mentally ill people without advocates are shit out of luck here in the U.S.A..

I've wasted many years of my life biting the hands of people who were trying to help me, and I can't promise it won't ever happen again.

It takes a lot of courage to seek mental health care in a society the stigmatizes mental illness, but you can't expect that from everyone, and often it's those very expectations that make their suffering worse.

We humans are social creatures. That's what defines us.

Nobody has ever pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps.

Part of me is still that kid living in my broken car in a church parking lot, dumpster diving for food, refusing any other help but a place to simply be, having left home in a storm after I was booted out of university a second time and punching my dad in the face.

My siblings still tell tales about that.

Living on my own was much, much worse. I have scars.

It's all good now.

cure. It isn't. It is a long hard process. I myself went to the ER because I couldn't sleep for days. and had anxiety. They gave me sedate,
and sent me home. The next morning I woke up with a sheet wrapped around my neck. With alot of clinics, you are given your 20 minutes, your scripts, and the make another appointment for 4 weeks. I agree with your statement. Here in the US, if you have problems. you are looked at as a lesser person. Thank you again for your post .And I wish you all the best on your journey in life. Debbie

My question would be was he weaponized by the media.

In his room did he listen to hate all day long, did he blame the elites because they told him that was why his mom died? How much did Covid have to do with her death.

And why the hell didn't his father move to help him and keep guns away?

a shooting rampage. Maybe he blamed someone or something for her death.

But then why go after students instead of the people he thinks were responsible? The news said he had no ties to the school.

Someone posted that he got real religious. That's never a good thing because it probably deranged his mind even further.

And there was no mechanism in our court system to evaluate him for whether or not he should continue to possess guns. If the felony would have been stuck with, he would have lost his guns and the right to own them going forward.

But at least in that situation there should have been some evaluation of whether he should keep his guns.
