This past election showed me that Faux News has now become irrelevant

You know 10-15 years ago Faux News had a way of making things happen.

A 'source' like Dredge Report or Rush Limbaugh would report a 'story' - some rumor they heard somewhere. You could follow the growth of that rumor as it was born and then migrated to Faux News then within a day you'd have MSNBC and CNN falling in line to the point that within a few days what was once a rumor now suddenly hard core news. Faux News made the Clinton Impeachment happen (even though in the end the rest of the world didn't care) and was big on getting Gary Condit out of office. I'm sure we can all post a handful of non-stories that were made into Megastories thanks to Faux News and the lack of backbone from other News Channels.

Over the years though it seems CNN and MSNBC have grown some backbone. MSNBC has a pretty center-liberal lineup especially in their primetime shows and CNN seems to be a bit more neutral although sometimes leaning right. But the thing is this - no longer are these channels and other outlets rushing out there trying to top whatever 'News' story Faux News is pushing.

Case in point - the Benghazi incident. Mind you, without a doubt this is a tragic story because 4 Americans are dead because of it. However this isn't the first time acts of terrorism have killed Americans, it's just the first time it's happened under Obama's administration. But to put the blame solely on Obama is a bit of a stretch and yet somehow Faux News had made this their cornerstone news story since this first happened almost 2 months ago. To the people of Faux News you'd think thousands of Americans were dead or in hostage situations because they have reported on Benghazi ad nauseum in hopes to make this the story that would turn the election in favor of Romney.

And in the end Faux News failed.

If this was 10 years ago, Faux News would have probably been able to push this story (along with the 'Fast & Furious 'scandal') in a way that would have turned voters away from Obama and towards whatever GOP candidate on the ballot. The problem was this - no other News networks really picked up on the story and moved on to other things a few days after Benghazi passed. Yes it was tragic but not tragic enough to devout copious amount of time trying to make a scandal out of it. There was no scandal and Faux failed.

The giant that once was Faux News is no more. And although we get a bit of politicking on CNN and MSNBC at least they finally are doing their work independant of what Faux News is showing. Faux News will always have their hardcore viewers but i have to think that these people are getting older and dying off.

2. They lost viewers when Glen Beck was their "star"

He was quite offensive and rather useless to people who wanted to see news. I recall that their ratings went up after he left, but I expect that their overall "editorial shittiness" took away their "credibility" forever.

they are all affected, to different degrees yes, but they are all working for the same things and it ain't us.

4. There's more than just the Presidency.

Many "blue" states, like Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey, and Wisconsin are still voting for Republicans in many of the state races (governer, senate, etc.). And the reason is ignorance and misinformation by Rush and Fox News.

Until we see a real shift (not 50-48), then Fox News and Rush are winning with their message. Maybe not as much as 2000/2004 but they are still very relevant.

Since faux would get first dibs on all the white house interviews, exclusives and rumors...

and the chances are high that a republican president would have worked for Faux in some shape or form in the past

11. They have no influence. The only people who watch are only doing so to reinforce themselves.

If you're stuck in a fixed position, a source of support to confirm your position is comforting. It doesn't change anyone's mind. Neither does gasbag Rush. The only other people who watch are comedians and those with strong enough stomachs to handle it and report on their bullshit.

12. Which is one of the reasons I limit how much I watch MSNBC

I mean I do appreciate a network out there that caters to progressives; however, I'd rather watch news that presents the facts to me and lets me decide my own opinion.

But when there is something newsworthy MSNBC is the first channel i would go to when I had cable. Now I will just listen to the news or stream PBS.

People ain't buying that anymore. People see how out of touch they are.

Reality won over wishful fantasy and political delusion in the national politic.
Fox had to report it before their political cohorts could accept it themselves.
