3 Michigan State University shooting victims identified: What we know

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2023/02/14/michigan-state-university-shooting-victims-brian-fraser-alexandria-verner/69903314007/

Police on Tuesday identified two of the three victims of Monday night's mass shooting at Michigan State University's campus as students Brian Fraser of Grosse Pointe and Alexandria Verner of Clawson.

And family members on Tuesday identified the third student victim as Arielle Anderson of Harper Woods.

Anderson, 19 and sophomore at MSU, was a bright, inspiring, and a humble young lady, said April Davis, her maternal grandmother, from her Eastpointe home where a small portion of Anderson’s large family gathered. She aspired to become a pediatric doctor.

“She’s kind, loving, caring, compassionate, driven,” and "very family oriented,” said Davis. Anderson stayed with her grandmother Saturday night and had her own room in Davis’ home.

Davis found out about the shooting after her daughter called her and notified her early Tuesday morning.

I hope the unidentified sky 'objects' are aliens, because they have to be better than some shitty humans who can do things like this, abide things like this, and fail to make legislative changes to prevent tragedies like this. How dare you all steal the future from these souls.

ENOUGH.

And I STILL want my two friends back.

They got into an argument one day, the argument turned serious, and then one of ‘em found the gun in the house. And in two shots, we lost them both.

And I don't know what was worse, my own personal sense of loss and sadness, or listening to the mom of my lost pal - and the absolute gut-wrenching agony she vocalized as she tried to come to terms with the untimely death of her daughter. I'll NEVER forget that.

And then I find myself thinking - how many other people have gone through their own version of this? How many MORE people have gone through their own version of this? I can sympathize, and I do. But I can't empathize, since I've never lost a loved one that way. It's always been a friend, or relative of a friend. A few degrees difference from it impacting me intimately and personally.

Thanks for the kind words.

Crap. Watching CNN just now, they ran a graphic -

MASS SHOOTINGS SO FAR THIS YEAR
Days into the year: 45
Mass shootings: 67

This will NEVER change unless/until we get rid of the guns. As long as guns are so prevalent, and so easy to get, we will NOT stop this problem or solve this crisis.

And to anybody who claims "guns don't kill people. People kill people", I'd say - what kind of results would you get if you substituted hammers or knives or 2x4s for guns? What would the death toll be, then? I used to say "yeah, guns don't kill people. People kill people WITH GUNS!" But I think I like the hammer comparison better. at least for now.

All these beautiful young people gone - gone forever or damaged forever. We will never know what they would have contributed to our country if they were allowed to live their full lives.

As someone else below posted, yes, include all those jerks who support their version of what the second amendment means.

I felt a sharp stab of pain and sorrow. But I know it was exponentially less than what their own parents feel.

My two children are long past that age, but I can still remember their first days of college - how excited they were, how as a parent you look at them and are excited for them but worry in private. There were no mass shootings on campuses back when they were in college. Now I have a seven year old granddaughter and she's only in first grade but you just know it can happen anywhere these days. I don't think I'd be able to live with that if something happened to that sweet little girl. I can't help but wonder what going off to college will be like for her in eleven years. All I do know is that we have to do something more to stop this nonsense.

My last few years in the work force were at a Michigan university. Towards the end we were having our campus police force make us go to active shooter training a couple times a year. That's when I knew it was time to retire. Just going through the training was a bit traumatizing.

Killing 3 innocent young people and injuring others - what did that prove?

It's sad and it's awful, but owning a gun and using it was completely illogical.

Had a fight? Don't know how to handle rejection? A gun seems the answer all to often. I'm just speculating here.

I guess it's worse if the shooter didn't know any of the victims. Pure randomness is harder to take.

Does it really help if a true motive is uncovered? I guess it would to the victims families.

the killer was 43

"Officials also released additional information, saying the first call reporting an active shooter came in at 8:18 p.m. and that a shelter-in-place order was immediately issued for the campus and the surrounding community. The suspect, 43-year-old Anthony Dwayne McRae, was captured on campus security cameras at approximately 11 p.m. and his images disseminated at 11:18 p.m. A caller’s tip led officers to him at 11:35 p.m., campus police said. McRae died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
