Skidmore to Boehner: About your assessment that there is a "mandate to work together."

That is nothing new. You had such a mandate in 2008. In fact, any time the American people seat a Congress, there is a mandate for you to do your jobs and work together for the benefit of the nation and its people. The myopic and childish snit fits of your party for the past decade have been extremely destructive to the nation in lives, treasure, and civil discourse. Your party has failed to provide leadership in any way shape or form. Leadership does not mean that you get to dictate terms. It means that you know when to set the parameters for undertaking the work to achieve goals. It also means that you know when to shut your mouth and listen to someone else and be willing to incorporate their ideas as well.

You have always had a mandate to work together. Now show us that you can use it effectively by removing the obstacles to progress. Start with getting your caucus in line.

I think a better reference is Dubya's "I won poltical capital, and I intend to spend it." WinkyDink Nov 2012 #1
