I think FatHead J.E.B. has better appeal than Rubio.

They thought that Sarah was an equivalent to Hillary just because they were both female..

(103,856 posts)My father was born in Havana, but his mother was from France and his father from Spain, so being Cuban was only by virtue of having been born there. He called himself Cuban, but was he really?
If a Texan and a Virginian have a baby while in Canada, is their child a "real" Canadian?

(437 posts)Though Rubio is Hispanic, he is Cuban and does not resonate with other Hispanics from Mexican, PR, or South American heritages. GOP can't tell the differences though LOL

(8,391 posts)Mexicans have different issues than Puerto Ricans, who have different issues than Dominicans, who have different issues than Central Americans, etc.
So just sticking any Latino on a ticket means nothing.
The GOP continues to treat us like we are stupid.

(13,877 posts)I lived 25 years in LA County and 25 years an hour or so north of SF and know a lot about the Central Cal population. Mostly Mexican descent. The generation ... immigrant, 1st, 2nd i.e. acculturation ... also has a lot of influence.
It runs the gamut of social, financial and cultural differences...perhaps a narrower continuum. But two things I notice are pretty much common overall ... the Catholic religion and the culture of respect for pretty much everyone. Which is why I believe most are, as the last sentence well states, not inclined to vote for those who ... to understate ... do not offer respect in return.

(17,064 posts)But he'd be a long way from capturing the majority of Latinos.
When elected in 2010, he was riding the crest of teabaggery, and Dem turnout was not only down but split between two candidates. His next election bid will be during a presidential election year, Dem turnout I assume will be higher, and he won't have a 3rd candidate spliting Dem votes. Much more difficult.

(21,925 posts)and inhumane immigration solutions such as preventing families from staying together who have been here decades. I don't care if their candidate has brown skin whether natural or painted on and has an Hispanic name; he won't get votes if his policies are absolutely repellent to Hispanics.

(13,424 posts)Their primary voters are not going to embrace Latinos in four years. Another presidential defeat or two might change that - and that is a big might.
