Nude photos of woman in police custody shared by four officers, Illinois lawsuit says

https://www.yahoo.com/news/nude-photos-woman-police-custody-193934294.html

A woman is suing five Illinois officials, including four police officers, whom she accuses of taking and sharing nude photos and videos of her while she was in police custody.

The woman, who chose to remain anonymous and is referred to as Jane Doe in court records, filed a lawsuit against the city of Ottawa, the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety James Less, the Chief of the Ottawa Police Department Brent Roalson, and police officers Stephanie Nelson, Kari Whalen and Scott Harden, according to the complaint filed Feb. 1.

The Ottawa City Government and Ottawa Police Department did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment. No defense attorney was listed in court records.

According to the lawsuit, the woman was arrested and detained by Whalen and Harden on “allegations of driving under the influence” on April 24. She was taken to the Ottawa police station where cameras filmed her “partially and totally nude,” the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois’ Eastern Division said.

Using their personal cellphones, the defendants are accused of filming and keeping nude videos and photographs of the woman from the police station’s camera footage. The five city employees “texted, emailed and otherwise published and disseminated these nude videos and photographs amongst each other and the general public,” the complaint said.

No shit. Abuse of authority should be a crime in itself. With possible counts for each abuse. bullimiami Feb 2023 #6

Abuse of authority is only going to escalate. There should be zero tolerance for it in the police if we want to have any hope of reform.

Something you may expect from a 14 year old boy. They probably stick mirrors on their shoes too. They have proven that they are too immature to wear a badge, and too stupid to make life and death decisions.

it is about 100 miles or so west/southwest of the Chicago metro area in LaSalle County in north central Illinois. Heavily red on the back of the neck and in the voting booth. The county usually goes close to 60% GQP no matter how awful the candidate is. Before Bush the Lesser they would once in awhile go with a Democrat for President. They are 85%+ white, 10%+ Hispanic/Latino and 2%+ African-American. I would suspect the Hispanic/Latino percentage is also affected by the county having lots of agriculture and in the upper Midwest, as well as other areas, a great deal of traditional crop/dairy/beef farming uses a much larger percentage of that population than they used to. What maybe says the most about the county is that the median income for men is nearly double that of women with men being over $50,000 per year and women just over $26,000 whereas the national numbers are $53,000+ and $43,000+ according to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey from 2019. The Illinois average is $59,000+ and $46,000+. So LaSalle County and Ottawa are not a pretty picture with a huge gender gap in pay/opportunity, a GQP hotbed and it is obviously a place with a horrible police environment. Typical of a great deal of rural America today.
