As you read through Dominions motion for summary judgement against Fox News and trust me, you should read it! keep in mind not just how it proves Fox to be nothing but a propaganda platform aiming to help the Republican Party, but also the evidence it makes available to Jack Smith as he considers charges against those who used false claims about voting fraud to gin up a coup attempt.
Just as one example, Sean Hannity has played a role in every Trump legal scandal serving as a back channel to Trump for Paul Manafort, participating in Rudy Giulianis attempts to gin up dirt on Hunter Biden as the first impeachment unfolded, and helping White House officials stave off the resignations of Trumps White House Counsels in advance of January 6. But in each case, investigators only got his communications via other subjects of the investigation, as when DOJ found Manaforts WhatsApp texts to Hannity saved in Manaforts iCloud account or when the January 6 Committee got Signal texts Hannity exchanged with Mark Meadows from the former Chief of Staffs production. Republicans chose not to call Hannity as a pro-Trump witness in the Ukraine impeachment.
With its filing, Dominion has given a snapshot of the ways and whys in which Fox News helped magnify false voter fraud claims, especially (though not exclusively) those of Sidney Powell.
It all takes place against the backdrop of a huge backlash against Fox after it called AZ for Joe Biden. When Fox presented the truth about the election, viewers started fleeing to Newsmax, with Trumps encouragement. The filing describes the panic that ensued.

Their entire premise was wrong from the beginning.
Murdock wanted to set up a US channel, but, because he was Aussie, he was not allowed to. So he went to Reagan, and asked for "help" with the promise that his channel would "help" the GOP. Ronnie expedited his application for citizenship, and once a citizen, then he could set up Fox in the USA.

(70,504 posts).... because Ailes thought or sold the story that Nixon got
run from office because of Dan Rather and the liberal media
such as the Washington Post reporting of Nixon's crimes. It
really was the fault of the media and not Nixon & Company's
actions so Ailes came up with the idea of creating his own
news operation just like he invented news events for Dick
Nixon in 1968. Fox and now much of the Wall Street Journal
are cancers on America with their deliberate misinformation.
Musk and Murdoch @ the Super Bowl ... they are real threats to
our nation's future.
I hope Mr. Smith and the Dominion Lawsuit sinks Fox News or
at least stops News Corp from using the word "news."

(3,501 posts)would that mean that Fox would no longer be represented at the White House Press Briefings?
That should get Jack Smith a flipping MEDAL!

(70,504 posts)In 2008 Hannity ran a story night after night that OH's Sec. of State (and my friend) Jennifer Brunner
was working with ACORN to rig OH's vote for Barack Obama and that story did not have 1 word of
truth to it but the Fox News watchers bought into and a few to the point that she got real life death threats.
And on the morning of Jan. 4th 2021 the morning blond (sorry I forget her name) on Fox and Friends said,
"A lot of people still have questions about the election." The people @ News Corp knew the election was
legit and by then President Elect had won by 8 million votes but they were still pushing the big lie that Trump
had really won via their on air personalities which just poured gasoline onto the fire that was Trump's big
lie.*

(6,591 posts)The texts between Fox hosts show that they KNOW what they're saying on air is BS, they KNOW their guests like Sidney Powell & Rudy Giuliani are crazy, but they still go on air & put on a show, lying to their gullible viewers.
For a long time I've wondered if they actually believed the BS they said, or if they knew it was BS & they were just putting on an act to manipulate their viewers. Now I know the answer.

I don't have time to read the whole motion right now, but I learned a lot just perusing the Table of Contents. It's basically a detailed, itemized list of all the awful things Fox News did and all the lies they knowingly told about the election.

Im hopeful Dominion prevails but these things usually end up in a negotiated settlement. That this case hasnt been settled means, despite these damning statements, Faux thinks they can win.

(16,396 posts)I don't really expect Fox News to be ruined by this; I was just having fun imagining how lovely that would be.
I am, however, very optimistic about Dominion's chances of prevailing in this suit. The evidence in Dominion's favor is overwhelmingly strong. Fox may have formidable lawyers, but so does Dominion. I was blown away just skimming the motion for summary judgment. It was obviously constructed by people who know their stuff.
I am not a lawyer, but I know good lawyering when I see it. That motion looks like some damned fine lawyering to me.

I thought he could only use evidence that his own investigators (or the FBI) discovered, because that's the way it is.

(37,051 posts)But maybe of interest to you. Im from Philly, an Eagle fan since birth (a long time ago.). Im now living in Kansas, my wifes home. Today on a Kansas Station they ran a clip of Gov Shapiro congratulating the Governor of Kansas on the Super Bowl win. Per arrangement he had the chiefs flag displayed in his office today. He says he looks forward to the Eagles and Steelers in next years Super Bowl. I saw that damn clip three times today.

Allen Weisselberg cuts a deal for a reduced sentence but subsequent testimony and evidence from other cases appears to have caught him in a lie. Now, he probably has to really sing to save himself.
A bunch of Trump's lawyers are in trouble. Time for one to chirp to save themselves.
The evidence from some of these cases is giving them leads or allowing them to triangulate in others.
The problem they're having is probably manpower to chase it all down.

(2,809 posts)Pre-internet days I was confused as hell how it was Fox started the bullshit narrative right out of the chute. One of the most basic laws and ethical concerns was any broadcast labeling itself "news" had to be verifiable, liberally substantiated prose or be clearly labeled "opinion".
Raygun. That egregiously greedy, turgid, pretentious, unscrupulous, duplicitous, pompous and magniloquent society-wrecking asshole.
Good ghod will someone please restore some good fairness Doctrine law before these creeps really turn us into a dystopian hellscape they're bending over backwards to create? It sure as hell wouldn't hurt anyone for Fixed Noise to have place an unmistakable flashing to banner "opinion" in large print when they start pontificating their propaganda. It wouldn't hurt "our side" of the facts one tiny speck.
