I still don't like or trust the man, but he gave a generous and conciliatory concession speech.
I know he had been up for two days and had just lost and all, but what was up with his clothes.
His tie was skewed, his jacket looked like it wasn't his.
Say what you will, he always looked good, in clothes that his wealth afforded him.
But man, he looked bad!

What was up with his suit!

(47,992 posts)I don't much like suits, even when they are very good ones. I think I'd hate to have to wear those jackets so much of the time.

(15,221 posts)First off, I thought it was rude and arrogant to make everyone wait so long for him to actually concede. There was NO WAY for victory. Even Faux News was reporting that. And yet the Romneys took their time, their final little bit of glamor in the spotlight IMHO before delivering the final speech.
The speech itself was adequate. Nothing special in my opinion. Romney looked angry and crabby when he came out and spoke. He choked out the words that someone else had most likely written for him. And then when the family came out, they appeared very condescending to me. I felt that Ann Romney wanted to get away from "you people" as quickly as she possibly could.
I'm sorry. I think there is always room for grace and dignity in a loss, and I simply did not get that from Romney. I feel like I witnessed a spoiled and privileged little brat having a tantrum because he didn't get his way.

(24,411 posts)...was just brutal.
It looked like a funeral.
It was just awful.
...or was it?
I'll bet his sons and their families scattered as soon as they got off the stage. Nobody wants to be near Willard when he goes . Except Annie, of course. She's probably worse. Those two deserve each other.
May we never see them, again.

(2,367 posts)I think there was a full-on face-melting crying hissy fit before the speech...and Ann probably cried too.
Control-Z
(15,682 posts)that tells us she did indeed cry. I would expect that - of just about any wife, in fact.

(7,768 posts)His tie is likely askew because Ann (it's OUR turn) was yanking on it so he wouldn't go out and concede.
Remember...when he was giving this speech, she was crying in the other room.
So sad.................................NOT!

(2,933 posts)This is significant to me (I live in a VERY Mormon area) because it means he was planning to accept the mantle of the presidency not just as a representative of the people of the U.S., but also as a representative of the LDS church. That white shirt is a huge dog whistle to people who know what it means.
How is a Mormon white dress shirt different from just, you know, a regular white dress shirt?

(46,192 posts)so instead of a neck shape, the opening is really wide. i guess it does look like a smile on one's chest.
i used to wonder if not having one would keep you out of some jobs in Salt Lake or especially, Happy Valley.
Utah is probably unique because it is closer to a monolithic religious community than almost anywhere in the US (and I don't mean that there aren't singular religious communities in the US, I mean that you can exist your whole life and not leave Mormon culture out there --or you used to be able to).
it is an education to live in that kind of thing and it makes Utah Mormons *so* different than Mormons from elsewhere (except maybe Mesa )

(12,310 posts)look. His pants were too short. We used to tease people who wore pants that short. We called them highwaters, as in appropriate wear during a flood.
I remember laughing to myself, what's up with the highwaters?
Now you really have me wondering. What was up with that suit?

(5,901 posts)There was nothing gracious in delaying the speech two hours. And basically the gist of that he said was ... I really wanted to be your president and Ann would have been a great first lady. Sorry we lost. Bye.

(47,992 posts)He's probably also been doped to give him enough energy to walk, but not to be tooooo emotionally edgy and start rattling and being all racketty, like he was in the debates.
