"I'm a Woman...I'm Asian, I'm an Immigrant. I'm a Buddhist... they said, 'Yes, but are You Gay?'....

.....and I said, 'Nobody's Perfect.'"

http://www.mercurynews.com/elections/ci_21947729

NEW YORK - Rep. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, on Tuesday became the first Asian American woman elected to the U.S. Senate. She'll also be Hawaii's first female U.S. senator, after defeating former Gov. Linda Lingle.

Here's the whole quote:

"I bring quadruple diversity to the Senate," Hirono said at a rally earlier in the campaign. "I'm a woman. I'll be the first Asian woman ever to be elected to the U.S. Senate. I am an immigrant. I am a Buddhist. When I said this at one of my gatherings, they said, 'Yes, but are you gay?' and I said, 'Nobody's perfect.'"

On the night of Michelle Obama's convention speech I replied to a post with Until the President is black, female, AND gay...taking my cue from the song America is Not The World by Morrissey.

Mazie Hirono and her election as Senator clearly demonstrate the advances America is making as we accept that what matters is not what you are, but who you are.

I contributed and she sent us information but I didn't know her middle name or that she was 65... She's beautiful!

Mazie Keiko Hirono was elected on a Democrat ticket from Hawaii.

The 65-year-old native of Kori town, Fukushima, moved to Hawaii with her mother when she was 8. She worked as a lawyer before being elected to the Hawaii State House of Representatives. Hirono has also served as lieutenant governor and as a US representative

I couldn't see McConnell dealing well as Majority Leader with a lesbian and now a Buddhist (not a Christian - oh my!!!), immigrant Asian in his chamber. Not to mention someone who wants to rein in Wall Street.
