Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIf Republicans want to be a national party again, they need to kill Fox News.
The also need to get rid of their legion of Limbaughs. Their entire partisan media operation has done two things that will keep them from ever being a relevant national party again until it's removed.
1) It's allowed Republicans to live in their own fact-free fantasy land. From Romney's certainty that Obama had never called the Benghazi attacks "acts of terror" to their party-wide, frantic refusal to believe Romney had lost, Republicans are just not living in reality. It's impossible to plot a real world strategy on a map of Candy Land.
2) That partisan media machine has put exactly the wrong sorts of people in charge of their party. The most influential people in the GOP today would've been Birch Society members a few decades ago. They're ideological loons. Ailes, Palin, Limbaugh... none of these people would have any real influence on the party without the right-wing media machine, and they are repellant to national audiences.
Having one party submerged in self-delusion and fantasy is really NOT helping the country. The GOP *ought* to be occupying about the same policy positions as Bill Clinton in the 90's. It's the only way they'll ever be viable nationally again, and I would actually much prefer them to be a viable, sane party. The Democratic Party would have little choice but to move a bit to the left, which would be good for all of us.

(13,466 posts)I have said for a long time that I would prefer not to live in fear of one of our two major political parties because they are insane.

(17,863 posts)I wish the Democrats would ascribe to Napoleon's maxim: Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.
Of course they won't listen anyway.

(674 posts)should not be the featured program on the Armed Forces Radio Network. His comments are far worse than anything ever said by pundits, announcers, anchors or sportscasters who have all been fired and banned from the public airwaves. He is protected by a powerful media conglomerate that is agenda driven. It's time for public outrage to be focused on Limbaugh and Fox's fantasy news.
Good post.

(619 posts)if they refuse to abolish it altogether. The "Fair and Balanced" slogan is also a lie, so that needs to go.
Maybe sometime soon Congress can reverse any of the laws that have allowed this "network" to flourish. It should be discredited by psychiatrists who can prove that it promotes mental instability and illness.
Whatever court ruling it was that allowed "news" programs to lie on the air needs to be repealed/reversed.
