A president surrounds himself with advisors well-versed in a variety of subjects -- and even when it comes to the basics of crowd management, it seems Barack Obama's covered.
In the midst of Tuesday's election night celebration in Chicago, Sasha Obama gave her dad a friendly reminder that endeared her to supporters in the McCormick Place convention center and beyond.
Apparently anxious to ensure the newly-reelected leader didn't ignore any of his fans, the 11-year-old nudged her dad to look at the people behind him. It was excellent advice: as soon as Obama turned his head, the crowd behind the podium started cheering and waving American flags even more excitedly than before.
YouTube user ohshawman posted a clip from NBC News's Election Night coverage showing the exchange.
It looks like Sasha made more than one good call on Election Night.
Great family

(1,451 posts)growing up and more beautiful before our eyes. Malia will be graduating at the end of her Father's Term. I wonder if I will cry when she goes off to college like I did my son? I know I will cry when its time for them to LEAVE the Whitehouse.

But now my girls are very aware and both wanted Obama to win. They are very aware of the world and what is going on.

(53,410 posts)It looked like he turned to Malia and asked her if the speech was good? I loved that moment. It was as if she warned him that his speech better be good in front of such a big crowd (LOL) and when he seemed to be asking her if it was good enough she nodded yes.
Left Brain
(955 posts)It happened after the speech, and as everyone was leaving the stage. PBO had lagged behind, waving to the crowd, but Malia stopped and waited for him at the end of the stage. He met up with her, and she asked him something. I saw him answer, "We'll see," and then he walked back onto the stage for one final wave.
Ever the father.
Would be fun to speculate what she asked him.

(2,338 posts)To be a child of the President. I applaud the first family for doing their best to protect their children.
I have no idea how they can be "normal," but it seems that their parents (not as POTUS or FLOTUS) have done a pretty awesome job considering their circumstances.
There is a good lesson here to be learned by all.

(5,810 posts)I think of the sacrifices they make every day and how living in the fish bowl impacts their lives. And yet they seem so normal in the way they interact. I read somewhere that the President makes an effort to eat dinner with his family in the family quarters every night. His love of his children and wife are so evident by the way he looks at them and the way he talks about them. They are a wonderful example to citizens all across our country and to the citizens of the world. I couldn't be more proud of our First Family! I am sure some people NEVER thought anyone could replace the Kennedy family and their Camelot. But I think, given a fair chance, the Obama's could achieve the same level of love and respect from the American people. They do deserve it.

(17,656 posts)I thought, what the heck can be so important now, right then at that moment, that she had to whisper something to her father.
He leaned over to hear what she said, smiled, nodded his head, and then turned to wave at those supporters.
She is soooo smart.
I am totally in love with this family!

(297,253 posts)I am still a bit fuzzy headed about that night and haven't fully landed yet.
The news of Obama's win came a bit earlier than we expected - the graphic on the tv said he won and we all just sat there stunned and motionless, reading it over and over and then the mayhem and cheering took over and just about busted out the windows.
It was a wonderful night.
