The last day of the impeachment trial reminds me of the 1st JJ Abrams Star Trek movie

Remember the Kobayashi Maru simulator scene in the first JJ Abrams Star Trek movie? Chris Pine/Young Kirk obnoxiously was just eating an apple, slouching like a slacker in the skipper's chair, totally unworried cause the game had already been rigged in his favor. Contemptuously, he did not even bothering to fake the effort.

Trump's lawyers didn't even have to try. Theirs was the same adolescent contempt for the seriousness of the moment. They just repeated some BS Fox News type anti-logic malarkey and let the Senate Republicans' fear of the monster they've created do the heavy lifting. Republican Math works like this: if 74 million is greater than 81 million, thus 43 > 57. They're gonna call this a win. That's more up is down bullshit. They lost. The world and history just saw them putting party above country, power above democracy, fear above honesty.

They got away with it, just like the Klan got away with lynchings for generations. Just like Europe got away with imperialism for centuries. Just like tobacco companies got away with denying cancer links for decades. Just like the Korematsu decision has remained unrebuked by law. The moment comes; the villainy exposes itself; the world's capacity to tolerate corruption wears thin. We don't win big victories. We just have to endure while our opponents win pyrrhic victories and the slow slow moral arc bends our way. History will reject Trump's acquittal. It will take too long for the full national consensus to get there, but that day will come. It's inevitable.
