(1,429 posts)two Friday nights ago I attended our county Democratic supporters annual Crab Feed fund raiser. The speaker was Adam Schiff- super speaker, spoke to our issues for 40 minutes, no notes, no teleprompter. long standing ovation. I also love Katie Porter but the same as Elizabeth Warren--SUPER at what she does, we can't lose that ability!!!

(54,013 posts)Honestly, it's kind of stupid how California only gets 2 senators.

(8,820 posts)Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota 2 senators with tiny populations..........
one vote for 250k population, vs one vote for 20 million population.......
Seems the two Senators per state, regardless of population, and the Electoral College have both outlived their usefulness or fairness.

(16,396 posts)If I remember correctly, the "2 senators per state" rule was originally a crumb the Founders threw to the less populous states to get them on board with ratifying the Constitution. Too bad they also made the Constitution so darned hard to amend. I get not wanting it to be too easy to amend, but I think they went too far in the other direction!

(149,615 posts)I wouldn't despair if I were you.
And either one of them would make a great Senator.

I saw one op-ed re: Barbara Lee imploring Porter to withdraw and endorse Lee...
https://www.ocregister.com/2023/02/21/katie-porter-should-drop-out-of-senate-race-and-support-barbara-lee/
Meaning maybe we could keep her in the 47th district, or does she forfeit since there are two Dem men campaiging for it already?
And article another saying Mayor Bass endorses Lee.

But thanks for the encouragement CP. We're getting whiplash from being in a newly swing district.
