Separating science, public health from politics

This is my personal opinion. The goal is to get politics out of science and public health at least as much as possible.

For instance, if the covid19 pandemic was just in the beginning stages.

- It should have been made clear from the start how it was going to work with a repeated announcement.

"What we know at 1 week, may change with more data at one month, or 2 months or 6 months. The public should expect this.

2nd main point.

We the doctors/scientists are going to make our best recommendations to the president and government on down, and they will make the ultimate decision as the responsibility as to whether they will implement them and how thoroughly they will implement.

They may take other things into consideration besides health in their response, but out primary interest is health considerations. We will recommend what we think is best at that time for public health, but it will be up to them to consider anything else. And that's on them.

To me, that frees up the science and medical community to say their piece on their issue, and let the politicians take the responsibility for either following something recommended or not. But there needs to be a reemphasis on the first part that science can change month to month. It may not, but it's not right to let the public believe because some data changed they've been tricked. Because that's not the way it works in the first place.

I actually think climate change and other potential issues should be enacted in the same way, as in yes, we're doing our best to give the best data analysis as we can.
