"Woke" Has Become a RW Pejorative for the Words "Freedom" and "Democracy"

Given that efforts to ban abortion, ban the teaching of African American studies, promote election denialism, and discriminate against LGBT, immigrants and religious minorities are often characterized as fighting "wokeness," all you have to do is substitute the words "freedom" or "democracy" for "wokeness" in any Republican's speech and it all make sense.

1. Exactly. It's about power, control, exploitation, and abuse.

They are trying to reverse the foundations of a free society - the Enlightenment - so they can crawl back into some fantasy blend of the 1920s and the Dark Ages where they are the sadists in charge of everything, and they believe God put them there.

that often what the RW describes as "woke" really is good manners and kindness.

3. Also "not being an asshole" and "living and letting live" -- both of which they fully reject.

IMO their "anti-wokeness" is mostly exhibited by being an obnoxious asshole, more than any particular political philosophy (which they sometimes try to add later as window dressing to justify their frankly unjustifiable behavior).

Anyone who uses the word “woke” in a derogatory sense is a FASCIST.
