Does anyone know about FMLA- PA specific--Issue about my Mom

On Friday I got texts from my sister and cousin stating they couldn't reach my Mom and asked if I had talk to her I couldn't get a hold of her I called my aunt and she when to my Mom's apartment and found her the floor. -Let me back up for a minute. Monday she got admitted to the hospital diagnosis with RSV also my mother is a long time smoker she is 84 and got hooked when she was 15 years old. So she was in the hospital 2 days and got discharged -but I believe she requested to go home. Have to have that Nicotine fix. My house took her to her apartment.

Thursday I go up to check on her She is having issues thinking verify tired. I pleaded several times to let me take her back to the hospital - She won't go because she wants to spoke her cigarettes. I left frustrated beyond belief. I did talk to my mom about 6:30pm Thursday night. So after that conversation she fell. She doesn't remember when or exactly how she fell.

She thankfully didn't break any bones but she is extremely sore and when therapy came to at least assess her and get her out of the bed and into the chair to sit. She was just able to place wait on her leg but just wanted to lay back in bed because she was in so much pain.

Saw her yesterday. She is thinking a lot clearer. When the Doctor came in yesterday he indicated after hospital she will need to go to rehab and basically will need to go into assistant living as this is her second fall in 4 months. She is resigned to that fact and started talking about making me POA since I live closer (my sister lives in Delaware). She is okay with being placed in a place in my area of PA.

Now back to thread Title. For at least the next 2 to 3 months I will be missing more time than usual from my job (I don't have vacation time my time off is Paid Time Off which I get 6 hours of every paid period. The idea is that you bill up that time to use. I am not going to need to take the full 2 to 3 months off but I will need to be with my Mom in transition times from hospital to rehab and will need time to check out nursing homes and the like. So I will be taking days off here and there. Is this something that FLMA

Does my work place approve FMLA or does the state?

Do I get the forms from work or do I print them and have the Doctor sign them?

Since she is under hospital care than rehab care then a nursing home. Will each facility need to sign papers?

computer, so you can just print them out as needed. That goes to surgical history, if you need it.

Tell your boss ahead of time what you have just posted - you will be taking days off here and there for a while.

I have been through all this with my mother, and you will get it all done - I promise.

PS: You might need to do the POA first.

Did your Emploer provide the paper work or did you just print it each time?

Did your Employer have to pre-approve or state needed to approve?

Iam deeply sorry I am a little sleep deprive so looking at all that guideline look like an alien language.

I am thinking ahead trying to get all this organize and sorted so I can focus on mom if that makes sense? sorry to be difficult.

It's so tough when our parents get up there in age & have health problems.

Healing vibes on the way to you & your mom for strength, comfort, & wisdom to navigate the path ahead. 💓💓💓

For documentation, you will need something from her doctor showing she has a serious health condition and you are taking time off to help her with it.

Most companies administer these through third-party administrators so I would ask your boss who it is to start the process.

If it is a small company they will have someone who handles it there. If a large company they will have an outside firm contracted to handle it who will supply you with the necessary paperwork.

I’d go with your mom to her MD to ensure MD fills out paperwork correctly so you get the correct amount of leave approved, long-term or intermittent. After MD(s) fill outs and signs you return paperwork to appropriate person for approval.

Some states have paid FMLA in addition to federal FMLA, for example MA and NY do. Not sure about PA. If PA has, then you apply for both. Or if you live in PA but if your company is based in a nearby state that does have it (e.g., NJ or DE) and you work out of that state, then you’d be eligible and apply for NJ or DE paid FMLA. That way they won’t use up your PTO and you get paid for the days you have to take off.

Usually, FMLA must be taken in whole day increments, but not always.

They do not need to be consecutive days.so if you are a rotating care giver use FMLA on days you are.

Get the paperwork to your HR department as soon as you can. Both my employer HR department since FMLA went into effect were very helpful.
