Young Republicans Are Begging Party Elders To Stop Saying 'Woke'

To attend the Conservative Political Action Conference is to find oneself on the front lines of the war against woke.

During her speech on Friday, 2024 hopeful Nikki Haley deemed “wokeness” a “virus more dangerous than any pandemic.” Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) argued Americans ought not to be governed by “deeply weird, nauseously woke people who hate George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Seuss, and Mr. Potato Head.” Ron DeSantis, grand poobah of the anti-woke, wasn’t there, but Moms for Liberty, the DeSantis-championing “parents’ rights” group, was, its members milling outside the main hall in navy “STOP WOKE” T-shirts.

To the young Republicans in attendance, the vernacular feels a bit cringe. “We don’t really use ‘woke’ as our term,” says Evan Masse, a student at the Community College of Rhode Island. Chris Johnson, the managing director of Young Conservatives for Carbon Dividends, likened its use to how an out-of-touch uncle might search for the words to describe a nephew at the Thanksgiving table. “I think a lot of older folks use it if they don’t really know what they’re referring to,” he says. “It’s a catchall colloquialism.”

What do they expect? You go to a CPUK event, this is what you are going to get. This is today GOP. Sorry, I don't see it changing until they get their butts kicked several elections in a row.

The attacks on many cultural things that people in the 18-36 years of age range have come to accept as normal in society drive them to the polls in the next election.

I know the republicans are going all in on middle age to old white people. Demographically I hope the turnout kicks their ass.

They just don't want to have to defend the right's definition to their peers who fully understand what "woke" means. This is the new version of, "We don't say the N-word any more, Grampa."

7. It's all so confusing.

Do you all realize that Jesus was one of those "woke" individuales? In all of the films and photos that he appears (those are all real photos right?) he almost looks like he is dressed in drag. It's all so confusing. And ten there is the question of what to do with the Bible.

I'll just keep trying to love my neighbor and letting the haters pass by. Life is too short and precious for all of this BS.

there was a study on DU the other day (of course from another article I am assuming) that had numerous respondents, to what the word 'woke' meant, and there was a different definition of 'woke' by each respondent, e.g., 100 people offered up 100 different definitions of 'woke'. Idiots.

This is an example of everyone jumping on some sort of bandwagon and saying 'look at me, look at me!'.

Trying to get attention, but instead, they are showing everybody else that they are so needy and so pathetic.
