dems do somewhat better at that, possibly because their identity doesn't depend on cult approval

(21,483 posts)Studies were done that show that the area of the brain that triggers the fight or flight response is more pronounced in Republicans, that is why they live in fear.

Four forces joined slimy hands to take over their party.

I believe that the corruption of many evangelical leaders is an important piece of the "four horsemen" of this fascist movement. The others are:
⦁ Oligarchs
⦁ Politicians, and
⦁ Our perpetual curses: racism and anti-semitism.
Each empowers and corrupts the others.
This pattern repeats through history because it appeals to greed, hate and deception.
My opinion.

(36,281 posts)...angrily blaming multiple societal problems on democrats, e.g. " High food prices? Blame a democrat!" Every time I pass that house I wonder whether the home owner has any friends, or whether they spend their days hurling invective on the internet and immersing themselves in grievance laden bullshit. I'd hate being their neighbor!

(28,283 posts)For decades they've been able to vent their increasingly dangerous anger, with little or no punishment. Democrats don't bear all the blame for this ugly situation, but we damn sure haven't done enough to prevent the onset of full-on fascism.

(94,943 posts)How many people here are angry at: Democrats who are more conservative than they are, big business, corporate media, all police, the imperial military, institutionalist Merrick Garland ..

(7,672 posts)Republicans seem to lack abstract thinking skills and only reached the level of concrete thinking in their mental development.
But, of course their are exceptions.

(3,556 posts)Years ago, it was predicted that the time will come when black and brown people will outpace white people. It is unstoppable and whites know it. Therefore they will do everything in their power to stop this from happening.

(47,591 posts)Within the last decade in California, non-white births surpassed white births. Quiver-full aint changing that.
And again, thats NOT non-white people moving here. Thats non-white people BORN here. Those are bona fide honest-to-goodness regular Americans!

(4,616 posts)And they have been spoon fed that for years. And it was by design. Politicians convinced low educated poor white people that black and brown people would take what little they had if they were allowed any rights. Read the book the New Jim Crow. It explains how politicians played on the fear and desperation of lower class poor whites and pitted them against mostly black, but brown people too and convinced them if blacks get total freedom they will take what little you have. They successfully took what should have been social and economic allies and pitted them against each other. And it STILL rages on today.

(3,786 posts)"They're gonna take our shit!" This has been the entirety of the Republican platform for as long as I can remember. There's a group of "others" out there who are openly plotting and scheming to "take" something that is rightfully yours, and only the Republican Party can stop them. YOU are entitled to this stuff because you're a REAL American, and they are unworthy because they are "others." It literally applies to EVERY issue. Just state something that Republicans believe, and then add the statement, "They're gonna take our shit!!!" to the end (preferably in a screamy, panicky, voice, usually with a southern accent).
And everything is a zero-sum game. So if some "other" is getting something, you must be losing it.
That's their mindset. On literally everything. That's why they're so angry all the time.
Laffy Kat
(16,391 posts)But mostly is fear of losing power.
inthewind21
(4,616 posts)Fear of losing power in the political/corporate greed realm. But in the everyday American citizen realm, Broccoli is right, it ALL boils down to "They're gonna take our shit"

(4,616 posts)Meanwhile, they bought the "trickle down" BS hook line and sinker. I asked a conservative acquaintance who was whining about wage disparity and raising the minimum wage. He was totally against raising the min. wage "they don't deserve it, he said, I only make x.xx more than that. Translation, if "THEY" get more then I'm not as superior and am on the loosing end. I agreed with him that yes, something needs to be done about wages. I asked him, what should be done about it? He started rambling about the federal government and how they should "fix it." So, you think the feds should fix it? His answer, yes. So, you are advocating the federal government should dictate to or just take over private business and set what employees salaries should be? His answer, NO. So, how do you fix it? He started in about tax cuts for companies because they were over regulated and barely making a profit so they could share with their employees. Oh, ok, well in 1965 the gap between CEO and worker pay was 20-1, now it's 399-1, looks to me like companies have plenty to work with, so tell me this friend, since there have already been several tax cuts for companies and the wealthy, and CEO's and executives seem to be doing VERY WELL, what makes you think THIS TIME another tax cut will do the trick? Deer in headlights stare. Another case of, "They're gonna take my shit!"
