Kansas state representative calls rainbow drawings proof of indoctrination at Leavenworth school

A local parent was outraged when she opened up her representative’s February newsletter and found her daughter’s rainbow drawing published as an example of indoctrination in the school system.

Courtney Ricard said her fourth-grader drew the picture to show that everyone was welcome in the David Brewer Elementary library.

“I found it and was irate, because he didn’t ask for permission,” Ricard said. “He bleeped out her name, which he thinks is acceptable, but you can’t go to an art museum and print out a picture of someone’s artwork without asking their permission.”

Rep. Pat Proctor, a Leavenworth Republican, published the drawing in his February newsletter. The picture was one of several drawings done by third and fourth graders at David Brewer Elementary School put up in the library.

and even then I knew it was a dump. I've always been grateful to my parents for getting me and my siblings out of that place. Its no surprise to me that this Proctor is such an idiot.

While I'm not surprised, I find it absolutely, totally offensive. Just show me ONE child who has not drawn a rainbow as a child! Not only is it one of the most fun things to draw, it's one of the most colorful, which is WHY every child draws one. It lets you use nearly every crayon in the box!

Yes, most of the kids are indoctrinated -- in one of the many, many churches in this town! And you can bet your bottom dollar they learned to draw the damned rainbow in the one of those churches!

I hope this kid's parents sue the crap out of the Representative. There are a lot of democrats in this funky little town. They keep kettling us, trying to make our votes count less and less. But we keep marching, and we keep gathering, and we keep making our votes heard. You wouldn't believe the work we did when they tried to ban abortion around here!

But publicizing kid's work and name without her and her parents permission? That's illegal, and I hope he pays out his butt! At some point, there must be accountability. If not for the big things, at least for the little things. This kid has to be shown she counts. And I can't see a better way to show it.
