(102,236 posts)you might want to hit pause on that. For all of our well-founded disdain for him and seething anger for what he's done over the years, right NOW, he is a counter to MAGA politics and the RW House, weak as that might be. If he leaves the Senate, all bets are off. If you think the R Senators spontaneously telling the truth about 01/06 in their comments yesterday, thereby somewhat countering the lies of Fox-F...ker and the House, I got news for you. Mitch was very likely behind that or at least gave license for it.

(22,912 posts)The stealing of the Supreme Court is a good example. But if so, he is a prior generation pure evil. Pure evil has subsequently been updated at least two or three times. Kind of like the Covid-19 virus, each new variety is more contagious than the last
Mitch acknowledged that Biden legitimately won the presidency well before January 6 2021. He never wavered in condemning the January 6 mob for their attack on Congress and violent criminal behavior. Mitch's version of "pure evil" has been superseded by those who openly call for the dismantlement of our democracy itself by rejecting the very basis for it while glorifying those who seek to end it.

(102,236 posts)and if that means dealing with the lesser of two evils and the enemy of our enemy, that is only being intelligently strategic rather than foolishly emotional or revenge-driven.

(32,080 posts)(current Governor and a couple of Congresspersons excepted) his replacement will likely be MUCH worse. Granted, whoever it is wouldn't have the kind of power McConnell has. I can't stand the guy, like you said, right NOW, the enemy of my enemy is my friend--sort of. I'll hold my nose--and wish him a speedy recovery.

(15,536 posts)does not enter into the fact that he's 81 years old, never looks like he's in the best of health anyway, and he fell. Also, how do you know that he might actually be replaced with someone not quite as evil?
Too many of these types of self-centered pricks only have a come-to-Jesus moment about their lives and how they were lived when they're facing their mortality.

(102,236 posts)and is frankly a pretty ridiculous thing to say. We only have opinions and I stated my caution for those wishing or assuming the worst for him is a good thing. As to your point ASSUMING something better will happen. I'd encourage you to re-read what I wrote and think about it. Right now McConnell is at least minimally containing the most Trumpist factions that would side with Tucker, MTG, and Trump on 01/06, sabotage our efforts to defend Ukraine and has countered the liars who would claim election fraud and that Biden is not the elected President.

(15,536 posts)As you now said, none of us have any control over this. One way or another he'll be gone, probably sooner rather than later, and we'll have to deal with whatever happens after that. You're certainly welcome to your opinion as are the rest of us who remember all the evil he perpetrated on our country. I, for one, would like to be optimistic thinking that at some point in time the GOP will regain some sanity in my lifetime.

(102,236 posts)the old adage "beware what you wish for."
BTW, anyone who feels the need to point out to the adults of DU that WE PERSONALLY CAN'T AFFECT Mitch McConnell (or anyone's health outcomes) is generally not to be taken seriously. That you felt the need to do so tells me you may not be a serious person either. I'd hope to be wrong.
