Jim Jordan shredded as his 'weaponization' probe chases a 'mirage'
Ohio GOP Rep. Jim Jordan is facing a wave of criticism over his investigation into the "weaponization" U.S. agencies against conservatives, with people saying it hasn't uncovered the bombshells Jordan alleges.
According to a report from Axios, "Jordan is under increasing pressure from disappointed Republicans who want results and from Democrats who say his investigation is being exposed as a sham."
In his column for MSNBC, Steve Benen contends that such talk has become "unavoidable" for Jordan.
"For example, a lot of planning went into the opening hearing of the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, which Jordan leads," Benen writes, calling the opening the hearing an "embarrassing display."
"Republicans whined about old grievances without presenting new information and invited witnesses who werent in a position to shed light on the issue at hand."
As Benen points out, the right is growing increasingly wary of Jordan's effort. He cites a recent segment on Steve Bannon's show where a conservative guest described the probe as a failure" and Jordan as "not a serious person.
Jordan has assured his detractors that the probe has more revelations to come, but according to Benen, Jordan has overlooked a key problem.

(21,563 posts)But Gym being gym at the end hell write a report saying they proved clearly that Biden and Clinton eat babies, declare victory, and recommend they be executed. Because thats what people like gym do.
One trick pony.

The above mentioned Salon article is here - https://www.salon.com/2023/03/03/report-outs-jim-jordans-weaponization-subcommittee-whistleblowers-as-frauds-paid-by-ally/
It details examples from the Democrats' 316-page report (PDF) of some of the faux machinations of the fake "whistle-blowers" who so far have been nothing but insubordinate RW loon former FBI agents paid to promote CT by the likes of Kash Patel and others.
Still love the Goldman take-down!

(37,159 posts)"Newt-ered" in this case meaning attacked and ousted by his own side for failing to deliver on their wildly-inflated expectations.
So-named for Newt Gingrich's resignation from congress and the Speakership. Yes, the official pretext was some ethical issues he had, but the real reason was that the GOP Salome Caucus had demanded the head of Bill The Clinton served to them on a platter, and Newt couldn't deliver. For his failure, they were going to oust him from the Speakership, so he took the ethics issues as an excuse to exit through the door rather than out the window.
Had Clinton been forced to resign, he would have been untouchable, and would have brazened out any ethics inquiry just as he'd done for every other controversy he'd created.
I remember it well, I was in school then, I had time to pay attention.
Snewt was one of the accelerators of the fascist movement. Look at how he's crawled out from under his rock since the chump train came careening into town. He's living his glory right now because he thinks the fascists he's been quietly fomenting all these years have made a lot of progress taking over the government. I think he and bannon have been working together for a long time.
Ugh, I don't want to think about it so early in the day.
Thanks for the recall, though. It's and important fact which should not be lost to time.

(38,553 posts)I'm all for checks and balances in government, but this committee is a farce.
The weaponization committee is using taxpayer dollars to investigate a bunch of nothing-burgers. The "witnesses" admit they haven't "witnessed" anything (nothing they have testified to amounts to anything even slightly unseemly.) And given their backstory (2 of them are under investigation for mishandling documents) who would believe them anyway?
Let's call this committee what it truly is: fundraising. Gym and the rest of the House majority can use snippets of testimony to get money from wealthy donors. They can say "we went after the big, bad, Democrat government," and watch the donations roll in.

(1,121 posts)the prospects of that happening are just about nonexistent as Ohio is in full-on fascists mode and enthusiastically embracing their race to the bottom. There's really no hope for salvaging it and I desperately need to escape this dystopian hellhole!
