General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIs this the start of the end of Fox News?
At some point, Dominion will win its lawsuit, leaving Fox News humiliated.
At some point, Carlson, Hannity and all the scum will have to go.
At some point, Fox News will have to admit to its viewers that it lied.
And in doing so, Fox News will have to part ways with Trump.
Am I being naive to think all of this will happen?
If it does happen, what will happen to Fox News afterwards?
Is this the end of Fox News as we know it?

Like it did with O'Reilly, it will pay the judgment and keep going.

(25,246 posts)Fox has done quite a bit of damage themselves to get the ball on that to start moving along - BUT - I think there is something else that can be done to help that along.
1. The judge in the Dominion lawsuit - when Dominion wins - needs to make Fox broadcast to their audience that they were deceiving their audience. That they were lying. The election was fair and Biden won. There was no steal to stop and that they had guests on their shows were lying and that Fox knew it when they let them appear. Dominion machines functioned correctly and that they were sorry that they said otherwise - and that going forward - there will be no more lying - just reporting the news factually.
2. An outside party from this lawsuit needs to publish in newspapers and in broadcast commercials a statement that Fox thought so little of its audience that they took them for suckers and rubes and lied and deceived them on purpose and for financial benefit. Bottom line - let their audience know that they took advantage of them because they were using them for political advantage and propaganda/brainwashing purposes. They were indoctrinating them into a political cult. [Note: I'm not sure how exactly this statement should be worded - but I'm sure that there are people out there that can draft such a statement that could make that point.].
Those two things - I believe will put a nail in Fox News's coffin.
Bottom line - people don't like to be made fools of and when the Fox audience gets some sense knocked into them that they were made fools of - that will be Fox's death knell.

(9,088 posts)spread Trump's lies. Trump and Fox News made fools of millions of people who felt they were the smart ones with the "special" information that "stupid liberals" don't know about. How will they feel when Fox admits it was all a lie? That special information was all a lie. Trump is the ultimate grievance candidate. Take away all his grievances and there's nothing left. If Fox say this grievance about the election was a lie, they will be damaged. Again, thanks for a great reply.

(42,700 posts)Parties may agree to a public admission/apology as part of an out of court settlement, but even if Fox is found to have defamed Dominion, the remedy will be an award of compensatory and, possibly, punitive damages. But the decision will stand on its own.

(70,100 posts)i know in some markets fox in basic, but msnbc is a premium channel. willing to bet if they had to pay extra, they wouldnt.
i have no doubt the settlement will include making the truth clear to their viewers.

(42,700 posts)Fox News is bundled with other Fox-owned properties, including its owned and operated broadcast channels, Fox Business, and Fox Sports channels. It has the leverage to demand basic tier carriage.

(3,943 posts)As part of any settlement or verdict, Faux News has to publically air confession commercials for a six month period multiple times daily. Tie it to the settlement. So say they find $1.6b for Dominion. They also have to publically admit, on their network, what they did. It would be even better if Hannity and Carlson and Ingram and the rest had to do it. Im probably dreaming but Id sure like to see it.

(9,088 posts)a Republican in the land won't know that Fox News admitted to court that they duped their viewers. I agree confession videos would be a good outcome!
It also opens the floodgates for all the workers, election officials, police, lawmakers, etc., that have been libeled by Fox News.

(3,943 posts)$20b in punitive damages . Reduced to $3b if they confess. Im sure their shareholders would have an idea of which way to go.
