What if Mitch McConnell came out of the hospital "Woke"?

Can you imagine? A woke Mitch, a good person who cares about other people and good causes — and uses their abilities to do something about it?

Say Mitch came out of an induced coma…If he was woke, he would actually lead, from universal health care and free tuition for all to stopping the Fourth Reich and opposing Putin and taxing the world’s billionaires, there’d be a whole new nation and better planet.

The GOP wouldn’t know what to do. They certainly wouldn’t run against it.

she had 2 brain bleeds and McTurtle has spent more time in a hospital than she did.

So either:

1/ His condition is worse than reported
or
2/ Goes to show you how different your healthcare is, depending on how much money you have.

Hope she has recovered.

My scenario came from a case at a hospital I once worked at. Decades ago…

A woman in her early 40s came through for a surgical procedure. Everything went well in the OR, but in recovery she suffered a heart attack. The Code Blue team performed CPR and defibrillated her, giving her several shocks. The surgeon and her own doctor, and a whole bunch of specialists, also worked on her.

I wasn’t there, but heard from someone who was: Most of that time, she had no pulse. Finally, after 45 minutes of trying, the cardiologist said, “There’s nothing else we can do. She’s gone.”

Hearing that, her husband, one of the spectators just outside the room, put his fists on his temples and started screaming, “Oh, no!” And ran into the room and grabbed the woman’s shoulders. The staff tried to hold him back and comfort him, but the guy was unconsolable.

The couple had belonged to one of those religious sects which must believe things outside the box. The guy started shaking the woman and yelling at her. Believe it or not, after a few minutes she coughed and started to come to — lo and behold, she returned to life.

The story gets weird though. She told everyone there that she saw the staff working on her and had seen the light, etc. like a classic Elizabeth Kubler-Ross memory. She also said she heard her husband and came back. The thing is, we found out later, she no longer loved her husband and divorced him.

I thought perhaps something similar could have happened to Mitch, except he’d shock the world by returning as a loving human being.

They are not uncommon. I know someone who experienced one, same circumstance, operation, and then seeing their selves on the table and hearing the conversations.

So, not weird to me!

Falls at home or work are popular these days.

The National Security Archive at George Washington University has a copy of CIA’s little booklet on the subject.

…is how the late, great Robert A. Monroe described the phenomenon or state he could experience between sleep and wakefulness. Personally, I think there’s something to it. I was reading his book on the Evanston Express in Chicago, standing up as I usually had to do most rush-hours, around 1985. As I read, one of the biggest motorcycle dudes I’d ever seen — leather jacket, chains, scruffy beard, red eyes, the whole bit — came up and said, “Man, you better be careful with that shit. It’s really heavy.” I thanked him for the heads-up.
