Washington State Assault Weapons Bill Would Ban All AR-15 and AK-47 Rifles

I hope it holds up.

The Washington State house approved a sweeping assault weapons ban on Wednesday that would prohibit the sale and manufacture of all AR-15 and AK-47 rifles and many other popular semi-automatic weapons. If passed, it would impose some of the strictest restrictions on assault weapons in the country.

The better question for the GOP will be "what about States rights."

As for scotus. The federalist society appointees will overturn that. Alito thinks you should be able to own a fully automatic machine gun. It's time to re-address the notion of private ownership of thermo-nuclear weapons. I'd only use it for self defense, honest.

I propose a possible definition of "assault weapon".

For purposes of defining an assault weapon, any weapon used in an assault upon human life, wherein 5 or more deaths occur, will be considered to be an assault weapon and will be added to the prohibited list if not already on the list as a grandfatherd-in historic mass killing machine.

Post Bruen ruling they reversed rulings upholding existing bans(CA's in the 9th Circuit and MD's in the 4th). They ordered the courts to rehear and rule in light of the Bruen decision. The 9th then remanded it back down to the District court level and it's expected that CA's ban will be declared unconstitutional again at the District level sometime in the next few months.

Like other AWB's, it will be useless.

You can't effectively ban firearms based on cosmetic and ergonomic features. The engineers and manufacturers will just adjust the design to comply with the law.

Legal consensus is that due to recent Supreme Court rulings, not only is this law most likely unconstitutional but it affords the gun rights movement to undermine all AWBs.

By way of reply, every nutbag out in Spokanistan and environs is going to start scouting out schoolyards, churches, and movie theaters.

Every time I drive out Spokane-way, there are hundred-mile stretches with nothing but MAGA-Trump flags everywhere I look.

I keep meaning to switch my avatar back to the state flag, but a part of me feels like that would mean disloyalty to the Ukrainian people. I know; it's ridiculous. We are supporting our Ukrainian friends far more substantively than simple avatars.

I've shown my support by sending notes to my rep and Patty Murray. My avatar represents my affiliation, my support is expressed by trying to keep up the visibility through my elected representatives. But I hear you, I ride on Zwift sometimes and tons of people switched their flags. It was nice, but not really visible outside that community.

I wish Zwift would allow State flags.

a new Amendment passed that redefines the ownership of guns.
Not one that outright bans all guns with some exceptions but rather one that grants the legislature the ability to pass some common sense laws such as licenses, registration, background checks and mandatory gun safety training (so as to avoid doing a Cheney) every few years.
