600 divided by 20. Thirty days worth.
Am I not seeing something here?
Am I getting this way wrong?
Or are we going to F*CK the environment even more for thirty days worth of fuel?
If I am right, why did I have to figure this out on my own. This should be repeated. Often and loudly.

(665 posts)I'm thinking that I'm very dense and getting something wrong here or that what I'm saying is a very powerful argument against this project. This fact- all this for 30 extra days of fuel- seems so, I don't know, absurd to me. It's an argument that should be used. 30 fucking days. This is THE argument to be directed to anyone who may be on the fence about this, or even lukewarm on the environment.

(22,467 posts)It's not "extra" days of fuel. It's a resource that has to be supplied constantly to uphold the economy we built to rely on it. It's a major tool in our diplomatic relations. It's money that makes a lot of people a lot of money.

(9,762 posts)I dont know the specifics in this case, but it costs energy to extract the fuel from the ground, and that is why some oil deposits are left untouched. Costs more energy than you would get in return.
So in this case, even if its relatively easy to extract, there is still an energy cost, so it would net actually less than 30 days of energy.
