Con-Phillips says there's 600 mil. barrels of oil in Willow. The US uses 20 mil. a day.

600 divided by 20. Thirty days worth.

Am I not seeing something here?

Am I getting this way wrong?

Or are we going to F*CK the environment even more for thirty days worth of fuel?

If I am right, why did I have to figure this out on my own. This should be repeated. Often and loudly.

I'd rather see a switchgrass ethanol program. roamer65 Mar 2023 #1
It would take about 10 years, running 24/7/365 at full capacity, to get that amount. WhiskeyGrinder Mar 2023 #2
10 yrs of this, 24/7, to add 30 days of fuel? Right? Rustynaerduwell Mar 2023 #4

I'm thinking that I'm very dense and getting something wrong here or that what I'm saying is a very powerful argument against this project. This fact- all this for 30 extra days of fuel- seems so, I don't know, absurd to me. It's an argument that should be used. 30 fucking days. This is THE argument to be directed to anyone who may be on the fence about this, or even lukewarm on the environment.

It's not "extra" days of fuel. It's a resource that has to be supplied constantly to uphold the economy we built to rely on it. It's a major tool in our diplomatic relations. It's money that makes a lot of people a lot of money.

I don’t know the specifics in this case, but it costs energy to extract the fuel from the ground, and that is why some oil deposits are left untouched. Costs more energy than you would get in return.

So in this case, even if it’s relatively easy to extract, there is still an energy cost, so it would net actually less than 30 days of energy.
