(1,454 posts)As ex-pats, we just can't . . . .
So, we decided that the royal family ended when Her Majesty, the Queen, Elizabeth II, passed away. Chuckles possesses none of the qualities that we so admired and cherished in the Queen. AND if he thinks for one moment that anyone will accept that horse-faced, alcoholic, slag (look it up) as queen, he is out of his mind. Queen Elizabeth decided on that title and Chuckles agreed to accept that. He cannot, now, change the decree.
It's all down hill from here.

(21,865 posts)The way she was treated was pretty humiliating.
And I agree, the queen had some good qualities and I don't see Charles having that. And he gets a big fat zero for charisma.

(3,173 posts)If I could have voted, he would not have been the person I voted for.
I have been known to tell any Republican asking for my support in any way that the only thing they would ever get from me is my utter contempt.
In as much as TFG was the president, however illegitimately, he was all of our president.
All of which entirely misses the point: Charles was not voted upon to be King. Unless the UK Government writes a new constitution, the next monarch, given its rules of succession, is all-but a foregone conclusion.

(3,850 posts)I don't get why there's such an interest and willingness to waste so much money on something so anti-democratic and anti-freedom that it stifles even those who are directly part of it.

(54,003 posts)But that said, if they can win an election over the matter, so be it. Pretty consistently Brits seem to favor keeping a monarchy by supermajorities. Monarchy is, of course, a very silly way of choosing a head of state. But arguing against something that's stable and actually working quite well is rarely gonna be that successful.
