Next week Trump will blame Dan Quayle.

From Bob Woodard and Robert Costa's book, Peril.

“Over and over, Pence asked if there was anything he could do.

“‘Mike, you have no flexibility on this. None. Zero. Forget it. Put it away,’ Quayle told him.

“Pence pressed again.

“‘You don’t know the position I’m in,’ he said, according to the authors.

“‘I do know the position you’re in,’ Quayle responded. ‘I also know what the law is. You listen to the parliamentarian. That’s all you do. You have no power.’”

Former presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush say they won’t attend the Republican convention. John McCain is also a no-go. Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney has actively criticized the party’s presumptive nominee. In fact, aside from Bob Dole, Trump has struggled to attract much support from Republicans who have run for national office — until now.

Bush senior’s former Vice President Dan Quayle went on CNBC this morning, where he declared 2016 “the year of the outsider” and said he would support Trump as the Republican presidential nominee:

This is the year of the outsider. And if you want to look about qualifications of being an outsider and being successful, he [Trump] wins.
