I lay each and every one of these painful negative emotions at the feet of those who even now still labor to destroy our democracy and anoint a gang of immoral fascist thugs to dictate how we live our lives, raise our children, choose our friends and worship their version of "God".
I'm closing in on three quarters of a century and never did I imagine that MY country---the great United States of America---would permit a transparently amoral and monstrous charlatan like Trump to foul our White House, steal our Supreme Court and facilitate the election to our Congress of liars, criminals and maniacs whose sole qualification was their willingness to eagerly compete for the "privilege" of kissing his --- ring.
"We the People" have kidnapped and caged children. We have banned people from entering our nation based solely on their religion. We have watched an insurrectionist mob invade and defile our Capitol over two years ago and none of those who instigated, planned and financed the traitorous effort have yet faced any punishment. We have "fictional people", open racists and idiots presuming to dictate the course of our government. We have religious zealots who believe their faith entitles them to tell doctors what medical procedures are appropriate for pregnant women and tell scientists to sit down and shut up about the steady deterioration of our global environment.
I grew up "south of the tracks". I do not intend to go quietly.

(15,813 posts)This week marks my 75th year, and I clearly remember watching Watergate and thinking this is the worst thing that will ever happen in our government.
I could not have imagined.

Frankly, its hard to believe the regressive changes weve seen.

(1,204 posts)Republicans engaged in passive-aggressive, suicidal biowarfare when they refused covid vaccinations.
I do not believe for one second that they were "vaccine hesitant".
They followed their sick, genocidal leader, who strategically made a mess of the covid response and crushed a testing plan because it would have mitigated the outsized struggle the blue states were having due to population density.
May I also remind everyone who Nawar Al-Awlaki was - an American citizen, and 8 year old girl, torn to shreds by JSOC during a raid Obama would not approve due to the risk.
It was 9 days after Trump was sworn in and undoubtedly done to show he was "tougher than Obama".
Nawar was born in the Bronx and could have become President one day herself.
DJT is a fucking murderer and I will rejoice when he breathes no more!

When I think about a future world along the lines of the magats wishes only one word comes to mind.
Monkeywrenching
Look it up, makes me smile just thinking about it

(9,923 posts)Like a cornered animal, they're fighting like crazy.
We have to let elected officials and law enforcement officials uphold the constitution that the folks still trying to undo the civil war are trying to tear down. Because they have the power to do so. We don't.
HOWEVER we need to use the changing demographics, and the increasing revulsion to the blind hate, wacko conspiracies and brutality of the RW to increase awareness, get out the vote, and light a fire under young people and all the minorities under assault (who will soon be a plurality* ) to stop the "White Christian Nationalist" (I call it Falangist) movement, and bury the movement alongside Generalissimo Fancisco Franco, who at last account is still dead.
I'm a year short of 3/4 century and building a head of steam!! (AND electricity)
I'm not forgetting and I'm fighting. With ballots, not bullets.
I'm energized, not depressed. (Veterans, do we shrink from a challenge?)
Did people just fold for Jim Clark at Edmund Pettus Bridge? (named for a Confederate general and Grand Dragon of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan)
(*) From Wikipedia:
Six states are majority-minority as of July 2019: Hawaii, New Mexico, California, Texas, Nevada, and Maryland.
In the United States of America, majority-minority area or minority-majority area is a term describing a U.S. state or jurisdiction whose population is composed of less than 50% non-Hispanic whites.

(15,562 posts)I'm one year from the three-quarters century myself. Every day I think about my WWII generation parents and am glad they aren't alive to witness what's happened in our great country. We grew up seeing how hard they worked each day and teaching us to be grateful for whatever we had. We grew up knowing the sacrifices they made for democracy. To see an entire political party want to tear it all down makes me sick.
I also grew up "south of the tracks". No matter how old I am or get, I have a voice and I intend to use it.

(1,463 posts)That's what we're seeing play out across our country from sea to shining sea. The waves of red are citizens consumed by delusions of doom and gloom.
Malevolent delusion is as old as mankind itself.
Machiavelli has always led the delusional down the proverbial primrose path.
It's as true today as it ever was.
I call it America's Spanish Inquisition Y'all Qaeda style.
I see the effects of it directly around me and on me personally, every day Atticus.
I'm surrounded by Y'all Qaeda MAGA Fascists. The run my state and all adjoining states.
It's a literal living nightmare.

(141 posts)they are just so totally resistant to reason. You cant tell me if Obama said or did the same things as Trump, they would not be outraged.
I have tried over and over to talk with them but NOTHING can change their minds. They are the real patriots and the rest of the country are socialists, communists or RINOS..
Trump is their God and right wing bullshit is their Bible..and dont ever bother to tell them otherwise Very sad..and very frustrating

(2,852 posts)You've got a few years on me, but very few. I, too, look around, shaking my damned head and wondering what in the hell happened. But, I know what happened. What gets me is how the corruption so early on got hooks in so, so deep and now is so embedded I fear it'll take generations to root it out completely, if ever. It's sure not the world we worked hard in our teens and 20's to build for our future! Like you, I'm not going quietly. I rub some people very much the wrong way because my mouth will speak before brain engages sometimes. And, at this age, tact seems to be something I lost somewhere around 50. (LOL) I just wanted once, before *I* crossed that Rainbow Bridge to see a glimpse of that future we idealized and worked toward.
Not sure what "south of the tracks" means... but my great-grandfather was on the bad side of the Koch brothers old man, and at one point it nearly cost him his business. But he never shut up... no matter how much his wife or my grandma tried to warn him. So, I figure I come by my mouth quite honestly!

(4,254 posts)With.my husband for Canada. we were accepted as refugees by Canada. We became Canadian citizens .my high school US history teacher predicted what is happening today. I wrote to him here in Canada. When i héard he died I wrote his wife how honored I was he was my teacher. I thought he was was so much like author Howard Zinn. His wife said he would have been honored at that.
My own American relatives are magas. It is so sad what is happening. I no longer visit USA. I actually have fear in going back.

(1,198 posts)On their rapid anti-science actions alone I could weep for the rest of my life. Add in everything else, and I despair. I am afraid to put up a political sign in my yard, because my neighbors all have guns and many have trump signs inn their yards, or fly trump flags.

(21,234 posts)The propagandists are destroying our country. I am ashamed that the Maga coalition in congress are lying weasels who are undermining our democracy. And dont get me started on those states taking away peoples rights. How many people encounter transsexuals in their everyday life? Who is going to help that woman who is forced to have that baby she doesnt want and cant afford to have one. How dare they take away books in our libraries that they dont like because it hurts their wee wee feelings!
I hope and pray that in 2024 there is a massive pushback on these magas and they are sent to the dustbin of history.
