(3,776 posts)Easier to plan menus with clear consumption forecasts. And much better for the kids for whom getting lunch money or even food is any kind of an issue. I'm so happy this passed.

(26,842 posts)If nothing else, it will simplify getting the kids off to school, even for the parents who can afford to pay for the meals or who have the wherewithal to pack a lunch.
I had the extreme good fortune to be able to send my children to a private school after several years in public schools. The private school, somewhat obviously, included lunch for all. When I realized that, I thought the public schools should do the same.
Oh, and I'd get into minor tiffs with other parents who thought they shouldn't have to be paying school taxes, because their kids were in the private school. Really? Only those with children in public school should pay for that? No. Most of us, even if we have a lot of kids who go to public school, spend most of our lives without kids in public school. Other adults payed for my public school education. I am happy to help pay for kids today. It's a public good. Public schools need to be well funded.
