(8,387 posts)The only person who would be chargeable with a hate crime is dead, so there is utterly no fucking point in pursuing charges of any kind against that person.
The remaining things to investigate are any potential accomplices or any administrative violations involving the sale of handguns etc..
Just who is it you want investigated for committing a hate crime? And, to be clear, dead people don't get arrested and charged with stuff.

(3,286 posts)There was a Pope several centuries ago who exhumed a predecessor and put them (or their remains, at any rate) on trial. I can't recall the charges, but given the circumstances and time period, probably heresy of some variety or another.
As a practical matter, it's going to be "charged" as a hate crime in a full-court press on public opinion by the usual suspects, which has already begun. MTG is leading the charge. She probably high-fived some of her staffers when the news broke. This will absolutely be used to make a hell of a lot of hay, unfortunately.

(28,818 posts)are the most common demographic. you never hear them trying to smear every young straight white man out there. yes, they are fucking hypocrites. it really seems as if they get off on all the killing going on in the USA.
i hate republicans. they are the reason we cannot have a decent country.
funny how that happens. one person of a certain race or gender does something bad and the entire group gets blamed for it.... except for white guys. Why is that?
hmm?

(6,017 posts)It feels biased, to be honest. Not against the shooter; what they did was unarguably wrong and evil. Against all trans people.
"One day this will make more sense," Hale wrote, "I've left behind more than enough evidence behind"
They (Hale) was forced to attend a conservative Christian school, their parents were highly devout Christians and in their last hours the only friend they could turn to preached to them. I've lived in that world & it can crush you if you don't fit in and cannot escape. I fell inward, as in my nature. Some others lash out when they give up.
The story is more complex than law enforcement is admitting to the news media, and the news is running with the easy story. Again, this is not an excuse for murder. But I've a feeling releasing the additional information would show people that Republicans and Conservative Christians are pushing the outlier trans people to and past the limit of what they can emotionally handle. That is how stochastic terrorism works, too.

That seems to be highly likely given the state of christian schools these days.

I will give up ALL my complaining about guns, IN EXCHANGE FOR getting my two friends back. They got into an argument that turned deadly for both of them, after one of them found the gun in the house and settled things. All it took was one gun. Leading directly to a murder-suicide.

What about the other religious places which were attacked?
The church in one of the Carolinas (sorry there have been so many it's hard to keep up0)
Two churches in Texas; one right here in Ft Worth not long after Columbine.
Synagogues - isn't that a hate crime?
Pulse night club isn't that a hate crime
The supermarket in Buffalo
the Wal Mart in El Paso
I guess Hawley is only concerned if it is a "Christian" school that is shot up - especially by a (Horror of horrors) female in transition. Makes me wonder what that school did to her>

I don't recall Republicans being outraged. They offered thoughts and prayers, as usual.
