Last month my grandson's team finished 2nd place out of the Pittsburgh district which qualified them for states. Today They won the freaking state competition, they are going to worlds.
The kids do it all, build structures that have to perform at least 4 functions. OMG I can't believe it.
For example, one of the functions they chose was "folding" something. So one of the kids says, I am terrible at folding clothes I wish they had a machine to do it. Another kid says I have a machine, The kid lays his T-shirt halfway on a cardboard flap. The kid with the machine sneezes and a pin breaks a balloon that drops a tennis ball down a cardboard shoot onto a spring loaded mechanism that flips the cardboard flap that half of the shirt was sitting on and perfectly folds it.
That was one of their functions.

It was such a growing-up experience for her.

(2,752 posts)It sounds like your grandson's team has a real sense of fun about them. Or are they encouraged to take a Rube Goldberg approach to their inventions?

(42,372 posts)My youngest particiapted for several years. One of our other teams made it to the world championships their first time out (elementary). Theirs was making a PBJ sandwich - so creative. And they came up with it themselves.
it's a fun, creative, collaborative experience for kids. Great for your grandson. I hope he's enjoying it!
