Newsom says he has no plans or desire to run for President in 2024 and even if it was a consideration, he wouldn't run against Biden or Harris.
I know nothing about the guy except what I've heard him say in a couple of interviews but what he says always makes sense, far more sense than any Republican drivel I hear. He is definitely pro-democracy.

(7,231 posts)He'd be great. He knows how to go on the offense and doesn't pull any punches. He doesn't apologize for being liberal, and why should he? Liberal policies are popular. It's just that too many Americans have been warped by Fox and hate radio. He knows how to cut through that noise. And I can see Gen Z really getting behind his candidacy. If he runs for 2028, more than 20 million of them will have turned 18 compared to today! That's yuuuuuge potential to harness!

I kinda feel that Gavin Newsom is that for Republicans.

(8,072 posts)I adore Gavin Newsom. Having said that, I agree with you.
Unfortunately, I strongly he's just too progressive for the general election.

(3,868 posts)But it's just the truth.
California and its politicians lead from the front, advance liberal causes and push the boundaries. Which is great, but it's not where we are going to find Presidential candidates that will appeal to a broad spectrum of voters. You need moderates to win the Presidency.

If Gretchen Whitmer continues her progressive legislative blitzkrieg, shes my pick for 2028.
In It to Win It
(8,283 posts)If he wins the nomination in 2028, I'd obviously vote for him. I think Josh Shapiro of PA could also be a good 2028 candidate.
Obviously, we're all assuming that Joe Biden will have a 2nd term.

In It to Win It
(8,283 posts)He has time to raise his profile, and as governor with the bully pulpit, he has an opportunity to do that. I'm also assuming that Josh Shapiro will have a 2nd term as governor and therefore will be governor in 2028.

Let see where November 2024 leads us. That election is going to be a major inflection point for our country.
